Roy Williams escaped the clutches of mediocrity when the Lions sent him to the Cowboys just prior to the trade deadline last month. Unfortunately, uninspired unremarkable-ness is contagious, and Williams has since infected the entire Cowboys locker room (Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger were multiple sufferers). Not to worry, though; Tony Romo is back and the Cowboys are turning things around. The same can't be said for the Lions, however. At least according to Williams.
"They're staring 0-16 in the face right now, just going by the schedule," said Williams, who talks or texts with several of his ex-teammates on a regular basis. "I hope it doesn't happen, because I think I'm still a part of that team, too. I started out with that team, so if they go 0-16, I've got an asterisk by my name on that team. I hope they don't go 0-16." ...As PFT's Tim MacMahon notes, the Lions' remaining schedule looks like this: home against Tampa Bay, Tennessee, Minnesota and New Orleans, and road trips to Carolina Indy and Green Bay.
"I don't see where the one would come," Williams said. "Maybe Thanksgiving [against the Titans] – the undefeated team vs. the defeated team."
Hmm. I'm not seeing a victory in there, either. That said, nobody thought the then-winless Bengals would beat the Jaguars two weeks ago, and that's exactly what happened. Of course, Detroit was humiliated by Jacksonville last week, so maybe that's not the best example.
By the way, is now a bad time to point out that the Matt Millen-led Lions never won fewer than two games during his reign of terror?

I suspect the Saints could lose, simply because history is on their side. 1-15 immediately following their first .500 season, a history as the 'Aints" early, and being the only team, if memory serves, to lose to another 1-15 team - the Jets, I think.

"Uhh..It's on me..we'll just have to look at the film...Even when you don't see light...my shovel is sharp...my pick is sharp...and my will is outstanding...you keep digging even without light."
Those are the Marinelli quotes from the last press conference. You know they'll go 0-16.
Football in Detroit is a joke.

When Millen left someone else was stuck with his disaster, he didn't take it with him. Coach is trying, give him some slack!

Yeah, this is different than when a coach takes over a team midway. This team was put together by Millen -- this is his puppy -- if they go 0-16, it's on his record. You can maybe undo the work of a prior GM in an off-season (e.g. this year's Dolphins and Falcons), but you can't do a thing about it mid-season.
