By most accounts, DeAngelo Hall is a loud-mouthed jerk, and not only that, he's awful at his job. Apparently, neither mattered to Al Davis, who traded a second- and fifth-round pick to acquire Hall, and then signed him to a seven-year, $70 million contract.
That lasted eight weeks, which, generally, is how long it takes the blatantly obvious to dawn on the Raiders organization. Davis kindly sent Hall on his way, but not before having to pay him $8 million for one being the NFL's worst cornerback. I'm not exaggerating. Just ask the all-knowing Peter King:
Stats Inc. came up with this illuminating stat about Hall's horrid play so far: He surrendered 40 receptions for 556 yards this year, more receiving yards than any other cornerback allowed through nine weeks.Yes, you would. But you'd also think the Raiders would actually think to evaluate a player before signing him to a lucrative deal. Especially a guy who was a bigger embarrassment on the field than off, which, given his history, ain't easy to pull off.
Part of that is because his counterpart, Nnamdi Asomugha, is so good and quarterbacks don't want to throw at his side. But Hall cost the Raiders second- and fifth-round picks last April, and then this big cap hit for eight lousy games. For a guy who made Oakland give up so much, Hall, you'd think, would at least be competent.
Whatever, I suppose congratulations are in order for Redskins owner Dan Snyder for landing the mercurial no-talent. If nothing else, Hall's on-field inadequacies should take some of the focus off Carlos Rogers and his cement patties he's taken to calling his hands.

They can produce all the stats they want to denigrate Hall, but no one is gonna convince me a former Pro Bowler in his prime is total dogmeat and that it's fair to deem his off-sason signing a complete failure after eight damn games. I'm guessing there's a bit more to this story than that he's been awful on the field, generally a dick off of it and a salary-cap liability, but the full truth may never come out as it's rather a moot point at this stage.

Dave-
You must have missed Hall play. He rode his draft status and his cutting off of coverage to try and make interceptions to the Pro Bowl (Falcons-Saints 2 years ago in Atlanta, the last play before half time, he even admitted to going for the interception instead of batting down a hail mary by Brees, with no more time on the clock. Saints got a TD). He is young, but couldn't cover a floor if he was a rug, or a bed if he was a sheet, or just about any other stupid analogy. It doesn't matter if you are fast. I point to him being personally abused by every team that has played Oakland. Denver picked on him, and he was guarding a 2nd round rookie WR, only to be destroyed. And the last game he played as a Raider, the Falcons only threw a ball or two towards Aso, because Hall couldn't manage to cover their number 2 WR. He was cut because he was expensive and he sucked.
Can't wait till the Redskins find out what a mistake this was. I remember in 2007 he said he was going to be a leader of the Falcons defense. Instead he made a habit of giving up big plays, and then getting flagged so many times he personally gave Carolina a win. He will always say one different thing, then a month later, say something different. He wasn't going to go to "another losing team", but went to Oakland, because the Giants wouldn't give him the money he wanted. Same old garbage.
