No guts, no glory. I tried to make a proclamation yesterday, and fell short. I'm fine with any trash talk that should ensue, but I'm still glad I wrote that post. Many of the things I said actually came true and the Bears were in this game the whole way.
The Titans won a hard-fought football game by controlling field position and protecting their quarterback.
The Bears lost by not controlling field position, having an inaccurate quarterback, and by failing to pressure Kerry Collins.
It all started out perfectly scripted for the Bears. They won the coin toss, deferred their choice to the second half, stopped the Titans on a three-and-out, then marched 75 yards for a touchdown. Things were looking up.
They wouldn't score again until there was only 3:17 left on the clock ... in the fourth quarter. In between those scores, the efficient Titans totally dominated in every aspect except their ability to run the football. Just as I suspected he would, safety Mike Brown played every non-passing situation (which for the Titans is anything but third-and-long) in the box and the run was totally taken away from the Titans. They finished with only 20 yards on the ground.
They didn't need more than that, though, because Kerry Collins threw for 289 yards after hitting on 30 of 41 passes. The story here was the offensive line of the Titans. As much as the Bears' front dominated them on running plays, they were equally dominant when Collins dropped back. He routinely had upwards of six seconds to find the open receiver.
On the other side of the ball, the Bears ran quite easily early in the game, but were clamped down in the second half by Albert Haynesworth and company. Rex Grossman's numbers didn't end up looking horrible because of the two scoring drives. On those two touchdown drives, he was 11-of-14 for 120 yards, scoring once himself on the ground and throwing for the other.
Of course, there were a boatload of other possessions. On those eleven possessions the Bears didn't score on, Grossman completed only nine of 23 passes for 53 yards. He was picked off once.
The Titans move to 9-0 and will do no worse than retain the lofty division lead. They could yawn their way to home field throughout the playoffs at this point.
The Bears fall into a first place tie with the Vikings, and have the task of visiting division rival Green Bay next week. I can't see them winning on the road with Grossman's inaccuracy issues. My hope is that he was either just really rusty this week and will gain some precision before next week's game, or that Kyle Orton comes back healthy before the trip.

Half this team needs to go- Rex--he couldn't run a day care. He really is horrible. They should have traded anything to get Brady Quinn---Lovie is too soft, I am tired of hearing the same excuses from him.
Defensive line can't put any pressure on QB'S, Collins could have pulled out a chair and sat there but any QB who plays them just has too much time. I am also tired of the cover 2, the secondary is not good enough.
This guy Payne is getting burned all over the place-he sucks. Hester complaining, can someone tell him when he cuts to the sideline he is going out of bounds. Is that hard to figure out.
WE NEED NEW COACHES---ITS TIME, THEY SUCK!!!!

You are correct in some of your comments........Just got home from the game and once again a mediocre quarterback beats the bears due to the outdated cover 2 defense. You cannot blame the players on the defense. If you rush 4 men against 5 or 6 you will NOT get to the q.b.
If you blitz and see that the pressure causes the q.b. to make mistakes why wouldn't you continue to blitz?
Lovie Smith is either the most stubborn or egotistical coach in the history of the Chicago Bears or he is just not very smart.
I seriously have to question his ability now............His Cover two has been figured out by the league, his offensive coordinator is the worst in the NFL, and his defensive coordinator has still not replaced the player /coach rleationship or the success of Ron Rivera.
Lovie Smith cannot convince the fans that he knows what he is dointg........he has the talented players to win and yet he is coaching them into defeat week after week.
Lovie Smith should resign and take his coordinators with him.
I have defended Rex Grossman thgoughout however his performance today was terrible.
The Bears were handed opportunities today by the Titans and could not take advantage of the situations due to poor play calling......
I feel bad for the players..........
The situation with the poor coaching staff in Chicago is obvious to everyone.,.........The Mccaskeys should fire Lovie Smith, Turner, Babich and Jerry Angelo. They have failed in coaching the Chicago Bears and continue to make bonehead calls and cannot lead this group of great athletes to the ultimate victory. That is the point ...to win championships..........not just to fill seats for the McCaskey's............they should remember how the fans left Bill Wirtz and the Blackhawks..........it could and will happen to the Bears if they don't find leadership and wins.............

Rex Grossman should never touch a football again. Seriously. That was pathetic. The bears should have put it into Garbage time in the 3rd quarter when Grossly was about 12-15 with al most zero positive yardage passes. Let's see what Caleb Hanie can do. There's no way he's worse.

You're not the only one that thought the Titans would fall this week--and I'm a Titan's fan! I looked at the schedule four weeks out and made a prediction that the Bear's defense would not just win, but they'd knock Collins out for the rest of the season. Thank goodness I was wrong--I'd hate for Vince Young to come back just as things are going so well for the Titans! I don't know how that mama's boy ever made it out of little league! lol
