Roy Williams, the former Lions first-round pick, was saved from the Debaclement in Detroit earlier this season when the team traded him to the Cowboys. Of course, Williams' brought the luck of the Lions with him because soon after he arrived Tony Romo broke his pinky.
We've since been subjected to three weeks of Brad Johnson AND Brooks Bollinger, two guys who make Jon Kitna and Dan Orlovsky look like Joe Montana and Steve Young. (Too much? How about Erik Kramer and Scott Mitchell?)
After a fast start, the Cowboys are now 5-4, last in the division and are long shots for the postseason. Romo returns next week, so there's that, but Williams is understandably exasperated after catching just three passes in three games and being used mostly as a third-down receiver.
"It's frustrating for me, because I'm on the sidelines," Williams told reporters this week. "You can't do nothing on the sidelines." Asked if he was possibly hurt, Williams replied, "Hurt? Yeah, my feelings."Not exactly vintage T.O., but I fully understand Williams' sentiments. The Cowboys gave up a lot to get him (a first, third, and sixth-round pick), and owner Jerry Jones seemed hellbent on finding a big-name, big-play No. 2 wideout to line up opposite Terrell Owens. Now that he has him, Williams spends much of his time on the sidelines.
Of course, some of that may have to do with Johnson and Bollinger, two guys who excel at passes in the 0-2-yard range but nothing much longer than that. Will Williams' role change with Romo's return? No idea. You'd think so, but you'd also think Jones would've found a competent backup quarterback this offseason, too.

There are many reasons for the demise of the Dallas Cowboys. It is disappointing as a life-long fan. Perhaps the one on top should bare some of the criticism. The Cowboys are in need of discipline and structure. Coach Wade Phillips is too easy on the players and it's time for Jason Garrett to take over. Hopefully before this season is a total loss!

We have enough problems in Detroit. We don't need "America's Team" making excuses for their own ineptitude. Like Chris said, Romo broke his pinky before the trade. I believe in the Arizona game, and they were having issues even before that game. So look somewhere else to place the blame.
