Last week, after the league announced that it would only fine cheap-shot artist Vince Wilfork for his latest transgression, I joked that the NFL Plinko Board came up "Fine but no Suspension," because it was the only way to rationalize such a seemingly arbitrary punishment for a chronic offender. And today we learn that more players have been fined for various absurdities and, shockingly, the latest batch are among the most ludicrous of the season. The going rate for intimidating sacks (I crap you not, that's how it was described to the perp)? Five grand if you're Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley. And perfect form tackles on third-string quarterbacks will run you $7,500 if you're Justin Tuck.
Or maybe not; the NFL has rescinded Tuck's fine, presumably because he did nothing wrong. Novel idea, that.
Via the Newark Star-Ledger's Paul Needell:
According to a high-ranking league official, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had not even seen the play until today. He immediately informed [NFL head of discipline Ray] Anderson the fine was too harsh. Giants coach Tom Coughlin has defended Tuck throughout the week so both he and his best defensive player should feel quite vindicated. To recap: Goodell, who has no officiating experience, doesn't spends hours each week pouring over game film, and isn't in the room when the NFL Gestapo levies on-field punishments, has to be the one to point out that, hey, you know what, you'd have to be a low-functioning moron to think Tuck deserved to be flagged for tackling that sack of potatoes Brooks Bollinger, much less fined $7,500.
That certainly gives me a lot of confidence in the system, and it's reassuring to know that Ray Anderson is so good at his job. Yeah, Matt Light has no idea what he's talking about.

Twice in one week! First the country has the brains to elect someone who actually knows what he is doing, and then- what a surprise - the NFL actually does the right thing for a Giant who is a great player who plays hard and CLEAN!
Way to go- U.S.A - U.S.A.- U.S.A. !!!!
Why bother watching NFL football if you can't allow 250-300 hulking masses of muscle knock the ever-lovin' SHIT out of each other. By the way ..not a hockey guy, but why do they seem to promote hockey fights?
I hope Vince Wilfork meets you in a dark alley...
At the rate that the NFL is going...maybe nexy year we'll be watching 2-hand-touch football??? And maybe by the time my 2 year old is in high school we'll regress to flag football??? way to go NFL....that is way to make the game more and more boring every year! Tucks hit was clean...at least for now. GO GIANTS
The NFL front office should fine the official, not the Giant's Justin Tuck,$7,500 for that iincorrect roughing call. against Dallas.
Luckily, the bad call did not effect the outcome of the game. .I also believe that an official league apology should be issued to Justin.
all you guys are right ,when i was playing we really knocked the shit out of one another ,now its like watching a bunch of ballarinas with uniforms on and touching one another, like abunch of faggots playing a mans sport ,when the original owners first started this league ,we needed some barbaric form of entertaining ,cause we just got done winning a gruesome war,and we needed to satisfy our need for blood ,and its been working ever since ,but now we got some fruit cake in the commishes office thinking that by fining the players for his own intrests is really doing a disfavor for the fans, maybe what he should be doing is confroting al davis and goober for really trying to phuck up the league
