Power to the people! Or something. Lions backup to the backup quarterback Drew Stanton had a tough go of it last week and he never stepped foot on the field. His offensive coordinator told the world that he wouldn't put Stanton in the game and "... embarrass the kid just to prove a point to somebody else." Unsurprisingly, Stanton took offense to the slight. But instead of responding through the media, he has harnessed the power of the internet and posted his response on a something called a "web blog." Cute.
Anyway, the 2007 second-round pick took time away from standing around watching everybody else get reps as the Lions quarterback to post some thoughts on being Detroit's biggest embarrassment now that Matt Millen has moved back to Pennsylvania:
I was not upset with [offensive coordinator Jim Colletto] for making the comments, just a little bewildered why he would use such a derogative [sic] term as EMBARRASS. But as I told the media, he decided to use those words and he said what he said. ...
There is NO anomisity [sic] between me and Jim on my behalf, and after being around him the past couple of days I don't feel it coming from him either. I think at this point in time everyone is frustrated, and perhaps not using the best adjectives to describe things.
Thanks for the continued support of Detroit fans, I do not say this with any falseness, but these are the greatest fans in the world. To endure what this town is going through and continuing to support these teams is tremendous. It's easy to dismiss that last paragraph as just a lame attempt at pandering, but you really have to be a pretty hardcore fan to stick with this outfit for any length of time. So, yeah, congrats Lions' faithful for for not going all Jonestown on us. If you had, though, we would've understood.
To the larger point: I think it says a lot when Stanton, a 24-year-old third-string quarterback, sounds infinitely more reasonable than anybody on the coaching staff. Wonder if that has anything to do with the 0-8 start? Nah.

THE OFFENSE COORDINATOR OF THE LIONS, HE CAN BABBLE ALL HE WANTS. HE IS A GONER AFTER THE SEASON MAYBE BEFORE THE END OF THE SEASON. BET MATT MILLEN IS STILL LAUGHING AT WHAT HE DID TO THE LIONS.
