Remember when Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila was one of the best pass rushers in the league? He hasn't registered double-digit sack totals since 2004, lost his starting job in 2007, and now, nine weeks into the 2008 season, he's out of a job (via PFT).
Green Bay released the nine-year veteran who, during a four-year stretch starting in '08, sacked the quarterback 49 times.
"We want to thank Kabeer for his contributions to the Green Bay Packers," Thompson said. "During his time here, he has been a big part of our organization and our community. We wish Kabeer and his family well."Perhaps well aware of Gbaja-Biamila's slipping production, the Packers have taken measures to shore up the defensive line. A year ago, they used a first-round pick on Justin Harrell, who promptly was injured -- and stayed that way till, well, today, when he was finally activated.
Whether Harrell will be able to stay healthy enough to contribute is another matter, but such concerns weren't enough to keep KGB on the roster. There probably isn't much of a market for a 31-year-old pass rusher on the downside of his career, but whatever happens, Gbaja-Biamila appears grateful for having the opportunity to play in the NFL.
"My nine years as a Green Bay Packer have been a blessing that is beyond words. I thank God for bringing me to this first-class organization and first-class community. ... Again, I've been truly blessed. I don't know what my football future holds, but one thing I've realized is that football is more than a game - it's about building relationships and changing lives. ... God bless the Green Bay Packers!"Very reminiscent of the Brett Favre exit press conference. Except KGB sounds sincere.

I don't understand why every outlet that reports on this story consistently edits KGB's statement. You've got most of it here, except you strategically edited out the stuff he said about his faith in Jesus Christ.
You may not agree with what he said, but if you're gonna' report it then report it! As a Christian, it kinda' bugs me that everyone's doing this. He gave a lot to the NFL and to the Packers. Let the man speak.

The fact that he is one of the best pass rushers the team has ever had probably didn't sit well with management. They don't like people on the field out shining them. They like to run the legends out of town.
The Green Bay Packers have now LOST more games than they did the ENTIRE season last year.
The NY JEts have now WON more games than they did the ENTIRE season last year.
Yay Packer Management! Great ship you're running there!
