Pat Williams and Kevin Williams are not two doods who appear to be losing weight. So it's a little bizarre to hear about them using these water pills that everyone's talking about (and which also classify as steroids). But they have apparently been busted and they will apparently be facing the appeals process and a potential four game suspension. Jay Glazer (naturally) reported the info (via PFT).
Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the list of players who tested positive for a banned diuretic include both of the Vikings' starting defensive tackles, Pat and Kevin Williams.Yeah, the Vikings are currently 3-4 and a game back of the Bears and Packers each. Losing the Williams(es) isn't technically bad enough to knock them out of contention ... it's too early for that, but man, it sure is close. Their strength is stopping the run and running the ball, but regardless of how talented Adrian Peterson is, the Vikes need some defense too.
If the suspensions ultimately are upheld, the Vikings would be without the services of both players for four games. And that would decimate the Vikings' run defense.
Glazer also reports that Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jackson is one of the names on the list.
This also should make the New Orleans Saints and their fans feel better -- at least there are some bigger names on the list. Although it does make me wonder why the Saints' names got leaked before everyone else.

Bumetanide is not a steriod. It is a diuretic. It is banned by the NFL because it is sometimes used to mask steroid use in testing, not because it bestows any strength advantage itself. The Williams duo may have been using it to stay under maximum weight requirements written into their contracts. If so, it looks like a bad investment. Maybe they should have bought treasury bills instead, but then how many smart people are there these days?

Why doesn't Godell just close down the NFL. Thats what he is shooting for. These players are playing at a high standard and fighting to keep their contracts. If you suspend every player who tries to keep his weight off (That is very hard anyway if anybody with weight problems can tell you) The NFL can't play honest games. You may say thay are not playing honest with the pills, but they are its not the pills on the field its grown men with the tenacity to play at the level and weight they were hired to play at. The NFL seems to want to pick what teams they deem money making and take away all opponents that could be a threat. give me a break. The NFL is two quick to suspend and not quick to admit not everything is in black and white. If you just take out the teams better players Godell, then you have a chance with the team you favor right ? this is getting crazy with all the supentions wake up. The whole team doesn't have to suffer all the time do they?

There are a ton of diuretics out there. I suspect at least one of them is available (perhaps a thiazide or furosemide) which is approved and does not block the detection of anabolic steroids as Bumex apparently does. If these men needed to only shed a little water weight, why not an approved diuretic or a sauna. By the way, It is illegal to take prescription drugs unless specifically prescribed for the individual by a licensed physician. I am sure the Williams boys can produce their doctor's prescriptions for the bumex!!!
