Mike Singletary lost his home coaching debut today, to the tune of a 34-13 blasting at the hands of a horrible Seattle Seahawks. Oh yes, and he has to deal with Vernon Davis, who is generally hated by every single fantasy owner who has reached on him over the past three years.
And, of course, the 49ers, who appear to have wasted more of a draft pick on him than even Alex Smith. So it shouldn't be that shocking that Singletary decided to send him to the showers 10 minutes early and then call ole' VD out after the game.
Yeah. That's pretty intense -- not Mike Gundy intense, but still kind of psychotically awesome. And frankly, I totally back what Singletary is doing here; if I got Vernon in a room alone, or even 10 minutes in front of a podium after starting him for another week, I'd probably say the same thing.
Now, of course Singletary also knows that if he wants a shot at being the head coach of the Niners next year, he needs to make a pretty strong impression on the team and ownership. I'd say he got off to a good start today.

I'm not a 9ers fan, but I now love Singletary. Great job on his part, he has some balls.

Well, we know that Singletary has some balls, and stones, but it's too bad that he doesn't have any FREAKEN players that are worth a SH#T! The 49ers haven't played like a team for years. They are a bunch of punk a## individuals that need to be released so they can go play for the Bengals!

That is the sort of thing you say privately to the player, or in a team meeting; it is NOT the thing you say publically to the press!

I disagree, it was the right time to do it.
The coach had to let be known to Mr. Davis, the team, and the fans that his behavior would not be tolerated. Hopefully his peers whom Mr. Davis would probably listen to
more will stand by the COACH.

Samurai Mark doesn't take any crap. I loved him as a Bear, and, if when he turns the Niners around, I'll applaud. Any prima donnas on the team will soon find themselves UNEMPLOYED prima donnas if they try to dog it or whine with Singletary at the helm.

I wish Mike were coaching the Bears.

finally a coach that won't babysit these nuckleheads. I'm glad to see him do it in FRONT of a full stadium. Owners and the commisioner need to weed these idiots out of the game, the so called 'union " be damned. When owners give huge signing bonuses to these children, they think they are bigger than the team. All they care about is their individual stats , always looking for the guy on the sidelines who is in charge of taking care of their baseball caps. Gotta have that cap on just right when the cameras pan in on them. And why is it with some person squirting water in their mouths ? Can't they get a drink on their own? don't they have hands? Anyway, way to go Mike Singletary. Someone taught you right !

Congratulations Coach. I'm a 70 year old woman who's been a 49er fan for many, many years. As a former school teacher, I know how important discipline and structure are whether running a team or teaching a classroom full of kids. I have been shouting for discipline of these players for years. What you did yesterday had to be done. It's long overdue. Keep it up and we may have a good team again. Rose Marie

The hard words were deserved, but this team needs a lot more than hard words. Hard hitting might help. Trying to tackle a strong, stubborn fullback, rather than strip him of the ball, might have helped... Not going for it on 4th down, with a mediocre gunslinger QB, might have helped.. better players would certainly help...Madden, in his morning show on KCBS, said that as his own coaching career went on, he said less and less following the game.
