An NFL week filled with infected players, conflicts over duplicitous players, and the wussification of football was just a warm-up to the big stuff. Steroids are back on the league's radar screen. Well, sort of. It started with Josina Anderson of FOX 31 Colorado reporting that there were a "rash of positive tests" for Bumetanide, a diuretic used to help people lose weight as well as mask the use of drugs, including steroids. Her report indicated six to 10 positive tests and named two New Orleans Saints, Will Smith and Deuce McAllister, specifically. Her source believed that the players were taking the diuretic to make weight; some of those affected are linemen who have weight clauses in their contracts.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN has thrown more fuel on the fire by backing up the initial report on Sportscenter, also saying that the number of positive tests is "more than 10 and may exceed 15." He also spoke to an attorney who said that several players have retained his services to fight the charges on appeal.
A first offense of the league's steroid policy carries a four-game suspension. Clearly this is a story that's going to have more developments in the next few days as details emerge and as players, teams and the league begin to comment.

Um ok this makes no sense and will probably end up being a nothing story. You say the drug is used to lose weight. Duece was trying to get lighter so he wouldnt have as much weight on his repaired set of knees. Im sure Will Smith and all the other lineman used it to "make weight" like you say. So how would they be able to prove they had any steriods if it covers it up? Can they get suspended for just using the Bumetanide? If so you should have included that in the article. Because it makes it look like your saying they could be using steriods and get suspended, and if thats the case how can they prove it if they Bumetanide covers it up????

Yes, this article is contradicting itself and is unclear. There are a lot medications that athletes take for all sorts of problems. Now how is that judged.

The shame is we don't let them all 'roid up. They are grown men playing a brutally violent and dangerous sport. Broken bones and bodies are not the exception but the rule and we as Americans eat it up every Sunday. They are indeed our Gladiators so shut the hell up and let them take what they need.

Lol to all you idiots saying Duece is "juiced" and think he is on steriods your stupid and wrong. If he tested positive for Bumetanide it was because he was trying to lose weight to make it easier for his knees (since he did come into camp at his lowest weight since his rookie year) and was definetly not using it to cover up for steriods. I dont get what the article is saying - can they get suspended for just Bumetanide or are they saying they are trying to find out if they were using it to cover up for using steriods and then if they find that out they can suspend them??

It's spelled "douche," not "dusche,"and it's it's more a term for Cowboys' wide recievers and Grammatica brothers than running backs.

I guess the main thing here is the "drug policy" that the NFL has on steroid use. It may state that anyone caught using any substance that may be involved in the covering up of "steroids" or any other drug for that matter would be subject to breaking this clause in the drug policy. With that said, they may be subject to the first offense of the policy and would then be given a 4-game suspension.
And for the record...yes, this report was written poorly and in a way contradicts itself. Either way, I had Deuce on my (Fantasy Football) bench for the perfect time Bush was injured and now this...sick.

I am sick and tired of hearing about steroid use! If the NFL or any other professional sports operation wanted to ban steriods they could! They shoud create a list of acceptable substances. Then ask the players if they want to have something added to the list. If a player supplies a product, they test it to see if it is acceptable. If so, add it to the list, if not, ban it. Oh yeah, put in the stipulation that if you take a banned substance that you are banned for LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can PROMISE you that after the first person is banned for life nobody will stray from the program. This is a bunch of sh1t! and the ones in control are a bunch of pu$$ies!
