Good news: it looks like Plaxico Burress will play this weekend against the Steelers. Bad news: he has apparently learned nothing from his team-mandated two-week suspension. Last Sunday against the the 49ers (Burress's second since getting in trouble with the bosses), the mercurial Giants wideout spent more time flapping his gums -- at officials, his head coach, anybody in earshot -- than actually making plays. He ended the day with three catches for 24 yards (including a touchdown grab), but now owes the league $45,000 for all his histrionics.
The New York Daily News' Ralph Vacchiano provides the details:
The Giants' No. 1 receiver, who is collecting fines lately at a seemingly record pace, was hit by the league for three different incidents in the Giants' win over San Francisco last Sunday. He was fined $20,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct, which also drew a 15-yard penalty from the officials after he questioned them for calling him for offensive pass interference. Then he was fined $20,000 more for his postgame comments about the officiating.
He was also fined $5,000 for throwing the ball into the stands after his lone touchdown in that game. And it's a good bet he probably was fined an additional amount by the Giants for cursing at Tom Coughlin as he walked off the field. So what you're saying, Ralph, is that Burress seemingly learned a lot from his two-week vacation. To Plax's credit, it was a bogus pass interference call, but -- and I'm just thinking crazy here -- maybe Burress should try to avoid drawing attention to himself. You know, to mix it up. Or, he could just curse out his head coach. Either way works, really.

I do understand why he was so angry...it was a really bad call & not the first one of the game BUT he does need to learn to tone it down. He's a competitive player & his intensity helps win games, but he's also a role model whether he likes it or not & I didn't enjoy explaining to my 8 year old why he was cursing at Coughlin. Still love him though...GO BIG BLUE!

Anyone who follows sports knows that bad calls are unfortunately part of the game. Does that make it right? NO!Should a player or a coach not be livid & hotter than a jalapeno when a call is so outrageously incorrect that it has the potential to alter the outcome of the game? NO! It isn't fair, it stinks, it blows....that and my metrocard will get me on the NYC subway. Plax, from Day 1, I have been alone 95% of the time everytime a Giants fan dogged you because of your attitude; sure, Giants fans changed their tune on 1/20 & 2/3/08. I took so much garbage for having your back,no doubts ever, from the minute the Giants organization signed you. Plax, no offense, but it wasn't because you had mastered the art of "How to Win Friends & Influence People". Your talent is in another stratosphere! I watched your fluid movement, your instincts,& your sense of the game when you played for Pitt to know that you were not a good WR, you were an outstanding, special WR. Plax, I say this with respect & from my heart...shut up and let your ability do the talking. As sure as the Lord sits in heaven, you know that you will do nothing short of dazzle em. Your teammates, your coaches, your fans, & your employers need YOU to step up & be bigger than this petty, unnecessary junk. NY Giants #17 IS all that....just get to your destination by taking a different route!
