Even though the Titans have a three-game lead six games into the season, everyone is well aware that until the Colts are completely put away, you have to respect the AFC South's long-time bully. That's why this Monday's Titans-Colts game is the one game of the regular season the Titans need more than any other. How crazy is it to think that the Colts' division title chances could be finished before we even reach the halfway point of the season? But that's what would happen with a Tennessee win. With a Titans' win this weekend, Indianapolis' chances of winning the AFC South are all but done. A Titans win would put Tennessee four games ahead with nine games to play. And with a head-to-head win, the best the Colts could do would be to split the head-to-head tiebreaker. Trying to make up four games (and then hope to win the division tiebreaker against a team that already would have a two-game edge) is too much to ask for any team, especially one with as many flaws as this year's Colts. But a Colts win this weekend would put Indianapolis two games back with nine games to play. Obviously that's still a significant lead, but if the Colts can hang around and keep that two-game margin until the final five weeks of the season, their schedule becomes very kind (with the Browns, Bengals and Lions before finishing up with the Jaguars and Titans). At that point, if Indianapolis steals one game before Week 17, then they would be looking at a season finale where the winner takes the AFC South crown (unless the Jags screw everything up).
| Week | Titans Opponent |
Colts Opponent |
| Week 9 | Packers | Patriots |
| Week 10 | Bears | Steelers |
| Week 11 | Jaguars | Texans |
| Week 12 | Jets | Chargers |
| Week 13 | Lions | Browns |
| Week 14 | Browns | Bengals |
| Week 15 | Texans | Lions |
| Week 16 | Steelers | Jaguars |
| Week 17 | Colts | Titans |
The Titans wouldn't have the division wrapped up by any means with a win this weekend--the Jaguars face the Browns, Bengals and Lions over the next three weeks, which means a three-game winning streak heading into their Titans rematch in Week 11 seems highly likely. But Monday's game is a chance to establish the Titans as the clear bullies of the division, and send Indianapolis into a tailspin from which it may not recover.

The next few weeks will tell a lot about the Titans - they play Indy, Green Bay and Chicago. All three teams have the ability to be legitimately dominate, but haven't reached their full potential this year due to various reasons...but all three are in the hunt and could really come alive at any moment. Chicago is probably playing at the highest level fo the three, but they keep letting games slip away late. Green Bay looks like they've finally come alive after drumming the Colts...but then again, that's the way the Colts looked the week before the Green Bay game.
Despite their 6-0 record, a lot of people are doubting how legit the Titans really are - they've yet to play a team with a winning record. If they sweep the next three, no one can deny they're the best in the league. But if they drop 2 of the next 3, then people are just going to consider them an above average team that peaked early against inferior opponents.

While it is true that the Tutan may not have played a team with a winning record consider this...they have beaten the Vikings, Bengals and Jaguars all of who were tipped to be playoff teams before the season started. Maybe part of the reason they don't have a winning record is because of the defeat by the Titans? ....who, by the way, lost their starting QB in game one (just like the Patriots huh?)
The Titans are surprising everyone except Titan fans ... they are playing Fisher ball again. This team reminds me of the team in 1999. I admit that they aren't 'airing' it out, but they are playing classic smash-mouth, old school football.
Steve Young said last night that the Titans wouldn't win in January because they can't score more than 30 points on offense but as far as I recall all you have to do is score at least 1 more point than your opponent in order to win, The defence is currently only giving up

At this point the Colts should stop worrying about winning the AFC South. They need to win just enough games, sneak into the playoffs, and then get everybody back from injury at the right time. With Tom Brady out and San Diego reeling, pretty much the entire AFC is overmatched versus a healthy Colts team. And seeing as playing the Titans on the road in January is on the opposite side of the universe from intimidating, I'm guessing there are a lot of teams hoping the road to the Super Bowl goes through Nashville.

Kevin, I saw Steve Young's comments, too and I thought it was funny.
I mean, haven't the Titans scored more than 30 points in half of their games???

YES they have scored 30 points or more in half their games. Our defence is averaging 11 PPG and not allowed more than 17 points since the last few games last season. As a long long Oiler/Titan fan I love listening to the critics and proving them wrong. You must remember back in 99 when EVERYONE said there is no way Tenn would beat Jax three times in one season. When they did we went to the big game. If Kearse was a second faster on hitting Warner they never get the 70 yard TD pass in the 4th. How cool would a Titans vs. Arizona superbowl be? Revenge on Warner...
