The city of Philadelphia is completely focused on the Phillies right now so it's no surprise that when Eagles safety J.R. Reed wore a jersey of the Tampa Bay Rays in the Birds locker room on Monday, he caught some slack for it. But jeez, we didn't think it warranted cutting the guy.Reed is a Tampa native and decided to show his support for the Rays by sporting a B.J. Upton jersey and Rays hat yesterday at the Eagles practice facility -- an understandable yet risky move in this city. The Eagles today released Reed in a move that likely had absolutely nothing to do with his choice of baseball allegiances.
In reality, the move was done to make room for a Philadelphia local boy getting a shot with the Eagles. Still, isn't it ironic. Just a bit.
The Eagles -- who already have employed backup defensive tackle Dan Kelcko and former Penn State running back Tony Hunt at the position -- signed former Naval Academy and New England Patriots fullback Kyle Eckel to their 53-man roster. At least we can be pretty sure about who Eckel is cheering for in the World Series.

Is there a team rule in the Philly Eagles locker room for this? Did they know in the beginning of the season that the Phillies would be playing the Rays in this years World Series that would warrant Reed getting cut? Or is there another logical reason for him getting cut in the middle of the season? Apparently not. Ex-San Francisco 49ers coach, Mike Nolan, who was fired, looks more justified (and that firing didn't make sense) upon reading this story. Unreal.

Actually, Tony Hunt was released on October 14... leaving Dan Klecko as the only fullback on the roster, and he's more DT than FB anyway. So yeah, the timing sucks (and as a Phillies/Eagles fan, its kinda sweet) but we needed another fullback on the roster and JR was the odd man out it would seem.

Doesn't one catch flack, but get cut slack?
Regardless, as I said on the 700 level...at least now I get to tease him rather than feel bad for his career getting wrecked my jumping a stupid fence.

Maybe a Tampa Bay Bucs player can wear a Phillies jersey and see what happens to him. If the player who does so doesn't get cut, then the Eagles mgmt. are real idiots.

Hey sedona, Do you even watch Eagles football. JR REED has been a non contributing factor to the team for the past 2 seasons, any the Birds are in need of a fullback, THAT is why he was cut. And by the way, regardless of where you grow up, if the city who roots for you has a team that is making a chase for a championship, you support that team or keep your mouth shut. I say to JR, CYA, go to tampa and see if they will pick up your fumbling, slow returning butt! GO PHILLIES!

Either Sedona is leveling everyone, or he's a dolt.
Reed was cut because not because he sucks, lowercase, so much as because he SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!, emphasis insufficient. Since jumping over that fence, he has been *terrible* and a complete non-factor.
