Bears quarterback Kyle Orton had a fantastic game on Sunday against the Vikings, and he's looking nothing at all like the guy who started for the Bears in 2005.Orton completed 21 of 32 passes for 283 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions, for a passer rating of 114.5 on Sunday -- the sixth best passer rating in the league in Week 7. But he actually did that on a day when his receivers didn't do him any favors.
Marty Booker dropped what should have been a 14-yard touchdown pass at the start of the second quarter. He also dropped what should have been a 24-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter. And Desmond Clark fumbled what should have been a 36-yard touchdown pass at the 1-yard line.
So what would Orton's numbers have looked like if his receivers had held onto the ball on those three plays? He would have had two more completions, 39 more yards and three more touchdowns, meaning he would have gone 23 of 32 for 322 yards, with five touchdowns and no interceptions. That's a passer rating of 143.5, which would have been the best passer rating in the NFL on the week.
So, yes, Orton had a great game on Sunday. Even greater than the numbers suggest.

This is fascinating!
i saw orton this morning on my walk to the train before work.. said "hey, good game sunday" he said "THANKS!" like he never heard a compliment before... although i wanted him to say "it would have been better if booker could catch"
It was great to see a bears Q.B. throw with confidence and poise, it's to bad the recievers did not catch the ball esp. when it hits you in the hands, thats what they are paid for, and what a day the defense picked to have an off day, this could have been an even bigger win, if they had stopped peterson on his one and only long run, other wise the " D " would have still allowed no runner this year a 100 yard game, he got 60 % of his yards on that 1 run. Either way... GO BEARS !!!!!
Orton was a good QB at Purdue, and I thought based on his days in college that he'd be a good NFL QB. Now the draft pick on him is paying dividends. I'm happy for him, until he plays against the Lions... BAH!
You know what, screw the passer rating or any talk about Orton's performance. The real focus should be what's Marty Booker's problem? Why can't Desmond Clark hang on to the freakin football?
Orton isn't responsible for their screw ups. If it was catchable pass then there's no excuse for Booker for not catching the ball.
Its nice that Orton is finding receivers in scoring position, and he should. Just as Receivers are supposed to catch the ball no matter where they are on the field.
Hey, let's wait till the end of the season to proclaim Orton the second coming of Montana. He has played extremely well, better then anyone thought he would. And Booker had this problem before, that why the Bears let him go before.
