The J.T. O'Sullivan honeymoon appears as if it's dangerously close to coming to an end in San Francisco, as yet another shaky performance on Sunday is leading to questions about whether or not the journeyman could find himself in a rather familiar place ... the bench. From Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee:
Mike Nolan, who last week brushed aside suggestions that O'Sullivan might get the hook, was more open to the possibility after today's game. "We'll watch the film and we'll evaluate that," Nolan said when asked whether he was thinking about replacing O'Sullivan with backup Shaun HillO'Sullivan put up passer ratings of 80.6, 106.4, and 123.3 in his first three starts, throwing three touchdowns and completing nearly 70% of his passes. The 49ers were 2-1 and it led to offensive coordinator Mike Martz suggesting the sixth-year veteran could, potentially, be the best quarterback he's ever coached.
It's been all downhill since then, as O'Sullivan's completion percentage has fallen and he's failed to put up a passer rating over 70 in his previous four starts ... all losses for the 49ers.

He can hold the ball as long he wants on the bench. Shaun Hill showed up with great performances last season, and we went with JTO just because he'd worked with Mike Martz before? Ludicrous. It's almost as ridiculous as if we had kept Mike Nolan on for another season.
Oh, wait...

Granted, the 49ers' schedule hasn't exactly been friendly to a team in a rebuilding mode like they are. But, guys...JTO's on pace for being sacked about 80-90 times this year. Give the guy some help on the line...oh, and you might want to grab some (more) young receivers closer to top-flight level so someone can get open.
Or...just pass a bit less and run a bit more.

Give JT time. It's his first starting year. He'll adjust and he will make things happen. A team won't get anywhere jumping from QB to QB. Focus on the O-line to increase JT's decision time and passing opportunities. It might offer Gore a few holes to run through too.
