The Cowboys announced late on Saturday evening that Tony Romo will be ready to play on Sunday. However, he will only be listed as "active" and he will not be the starter. Instead, Dallas is going with Brad Johnson at quarterback to kick things off.Romo, who will see his consecutive start streak end at 32, has a fractured right pinkie and only saw limited work in Thursday's practice.Well, the logical thing is for Romo to be the first backup (second option) for Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett. Why? Because the Cowboys should be able to handle the Rams without Romo playing. And if they can't, it makes sense to use him; otherwise, why even bother having him active.
Brad Johnson will replace Romo. It will be his first start since 2006 in Minnesota. It will also mark the first time since Thanksgiving 2004 that the Cowboys will have to use their backup quarterback because of injury.
What is not clear is if Romo will be the backup or the third quarterback behind Brooks Bollinger.
Obviously the ideal situation is to just keep him off the field, let the running game and defense handle things and let his sore widdle pinkie heal up. Plus, that way Brett Favre can make fun of him later.
Update: Romo is going to be the QB2, as I predicted. Brooksy is the emergency quarterback. Basically it just depends on whether the Boys can handle the Rams without him as to whether he plays or not.
Fantasy Spin: If you own Romo, make sure to bench him. Brad Johnson might seem like a decent replacement, but that's only because he's on the Boys. Find someone else. You probably have to start Jason Witten, Terrell Owens and Roy Williams at this stage and in most leagues; however if you've got a shallow league with options, I'd consider swapping them out. Many options, sure, but hey. (Still sit him)

No problem not starting Tony this week. We need him healthy for the rest of the season and postseason!!! No need to risk further injury! Stay healthy and heal quickly, Tony; We Need You!!! From a Lifelong Cowboys fan, Steph

Oh no, Romo's pinkie is broken. That's important news. Heck, that's all the commentators at NFL network can talk about. Amputate Romo's freakin' pinkie and get it over with.
