Recently, when former Raiders have spoken out about the current situation in Oakland, their words have been harsh, and for the most part negative. So it was quite a surprise -- to me, anyway -- to see Tim Brown proclaim that he would absolutely love to take a job with the struggling franchise. Seriously.
This brings the number of people who are currently willing to work for Al Davis to two: Tim Brown and Matt Snyder (surely you haven't forgotten this).
From Jerry McDonald of the Contra Costa Times (via PFT):
"It would take me about two seconds to make that decision. At some point, home is home, and even though I reside in Dallas, Dallas is not home for me when it comes to the NFL. The love I get when I'm in Oakland, that's home for me. I realize that, and if the Raiders ever asked me to do anything in the front office, certainly I would jump at the opportunity because I do think, not just my presence in Oakland, but in some of the decision making as far as what's happening with coaches and players that come in, I think I could be very instrumental in helping in that area."So what's one of the biggest drawing cards to working for the Raiders? Well, it's the fact they've been so dreadful the previous five seasons that there is absolutely nowhere to go but up. Or sideways. Or they could go winless. But, yeah, definitely nowhere to go but up.
Brown goes onto say that the situation in Oakland is similar to the situation our next president inherits, in the sense that, "this is the easiest job in America after what's happened the last eight years. You gotta do better than what's happened."
I see what Brown did there. He compared Al Davis' recent reign to the presidency of George W. Bush, which may be the meanest thing anyone has ever said about Davis.
The future Hall of Famer also chimed in on Rich Gannon's claim that Oakland is an impossible place to work, and in the process, revealed that Gannon wasn't the most popular player to ever grace the black hole with his presence.
"Even hearing a guy like Gannon say something negative about the organization is really wrong. Gannon knows that he came there with that `I hate the Raiders' type mentality. He came in there with that, and showed that to all the players. Gannon wasn't a very well-like player his whole time with the Raiders. In fact he was downright hated, and if not for my intervention, a lot of times, there would have been times he would have been sure-enough jumped on, almost. So for a guy like Rich to say something just isn't fair to the organization, I don't believe."Wow. It's like a never-ending soap opera that keeps getting better. Though, I'm sure Lane Kiffin, Norv Turner and, oh, I don't know, Mike Shanahan would agree that Oakland is a tough, if not impossible, place to work.

Bring back the vertical game, throw deep often and early, quick receivers, great defense, super quick corners.
And penalties, they are supposed to be intimidating, not stupid.
Oh, and play the entire game.

Tim Brown is out of money looking for AL to take care of him!!! He wasn't Mr. Raider when he was sitting in Denver as a free agent begging to play for Denver and Mike Shanny!! He was here signin with them before AL blocked it saying stuff like,AL hasn't showed him respect and he's loyal to his first coach (shanny) would love to be in Denver, then When he stayed, saqid He would have won 2 super bowls with them and how dissapointed he was.. Gannon was the RAIDERS when he was here,That was the only team in 20years that was worth a shit because of gru-gannon..NOT TIM!!!! The last five seasons with tim,he was washed up and in the way..Rice came in and showed Tim how to play football!! We don't need washed up players in the front office or coaches, thats why we are in the shape were in (shell,w.brown, freddy b,r.martin) please have them in the BOX with you AL and not on the field or office..But then again,You can't make a right move anymore,so welcome TIM!!!

Mr. Raider Tim Brown as GM of the Raiders. Wow, that's got a beautiful ring to it. That many years getting to know the querks of the Emperor upstairs may help him be a buffer for the coaches & the guys in the locker room.

I just know one thing ive been a raider fan for 40 years and have never seen the team in such a mess al is to old to make good desisions anymore i comend his efforts but i think he's afraid of losing his dignity or someone else doing a better job. So AL give us raider fans a break and when you get someone worth a shit give them complete rain over the team and trust with your heart they are the right person for the job

Wow, way to go "Timmy Brown," as Mr. Davis calls him.
It should not be a surprise that Tim Brown's comments did not make it to BSPN. Isn't it sad that when they search deep and wide for two former Raider players to say something bad about Mr. Davis like the blowhard Sapp and the bitter crybaby Gannon, their comments are plastered on BSPN for a week.
Congratulations to Tim Brown who stood up for a football legend and a Raider legend, Mr. Al Davis.
I never forgot when Gannon yelled at Jerry Rice after an incomplete pass on third down. Gannon, a perennial back-up until he played for the Raiders, actually had the nerve and audacity to yell at the greatest receiver in NFL history.
Now, thanks to Tim Brown, we now know that Gannon was worst than I thought.
And thanks to Tim Brown, we now have more positive comments about Mr. Davis to try to reverse the brainwashing of the American sheeple by BSPN and the media and print.
