The NFL trade deadline usually is a dud but there were some interesting non-trades. One involved Chiefs' tight end Tony Gonzalez who asked to be dealt to a contender. That didn't happen and now Gonzalez is a bit miffed by that: "I'm shocked," he said in an exclusive interview with FOXSports.com. "It didn't make sense not to do this deal. It's winding down for me and this team is rebuilding. If they said from the get-go, 'No, we're not going to trade you,' that would've been better than how this whole thing unfolded. But that's not what happened.Gonzalez was very candid about his feeling to FoxSports.com (you can read the entire interview here).
Gonzo would go on to say that he has no real hard feelings against the Chiefs. He knows he is at the end of his career and doesn't want to play out his remaining days on a rebuilding team. Kansas City was adamant about receiving at least a second round pick for Gonzalez and apparently no one was willing to give that.
Now Gonzalez heads back to a 1-4 Chiefs team who are just playing out the string. Their head coach could be dumped at the end of the year. So could running back Larry Johnson. One of the first things KC needs to do this offseason is find someone to be the quarterback of the future.
Gonzalez will be fine. Yes, he is bent that the team told him that they'd accommodate his trade request but says he has no problem staying a Chief.
"But you know what? I can't cry about it. If anything, this has motivated me even more. I'm a Chief, will be happy to be a Chief and will bust my butt for the Chiefs. I was never not happy being a Chief. I just wanted the chance to spend my last couple of years winning a title, not rebuilding. But I'm here to help rebuild, I'll work with all our young guys and get after it like I always have."

I think TG has a great attitude and always has. I respect him (and I'm not a Chiefs fan, either) for his candor and willingness to see it through. I wish the best for him!

Why wouldn't they trade a guy who's been loyal to the team his entire career...it's not his fault his team has been so poor they've never won a playoff game in his entire career. Chiefs need new management altogether. They knew no team would offer a 2nd rounder for a man who has at most 1 more season after this 1 left in him. If they did then it is a testament to how horrible it is over there in KC.
