If you watched Kurt Warner's performance against the Jets in Week Four, you might not be surprised to hear that he texted his wife following the game and said it was time to retire. What might surprise you, though, is that it wasn't his six turnovers that had him ready to hang up the cleats. It was the injury suffered by Anquan Boldin, as he told Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports. "Something scary like that just makes you contemplate what's really important and puts football in perspective. It's things like that make you say, 'This game isn't everything, and I'm not sure if I can do this anymore.' Because the bottom line is that all I really want is to be able to go home to my wife and kids."It's not hard to understand Warner's thought process. It was a scary scene and he's had a history of head injuries. Once he found out Boldin would be OK, Warner abandoned his retirement thoughts however. A good thing for the Cardinals who rode a strong performance against Buffalo to an easy 41-17 win yesterday.
Part of the reason it was such an easy win was because Warner's teammate Adrian Wilson concussed Trent Edwards on the third play of the game. If opponent injuries also cause Warner to search for perspective, a replay of that hit might provide just enough for him to think about retirement once again.

Warner should have retired. He was 100% the cause of Boldin's injury. He called a stupid play and then threw to a place where he jeopardized the career, and even worse yet, the life of one of his players. Warner should have been fined and suspended right along with the guy who hit Boldin.

Gary what a irrational statement to make. Warner was trying be his team's leader and never wanted to quit on his teammates. Eric Smith didn't have to be a head hunter on the play and take a cheap shot on Boldin. What Warner showed was some class and its too bad more NFL players are not like him.

I won't be hard on Gary, I think he may be young, possibly lacking in football knowledge. It may change in time as he understands the game further. I was at the bar watching that game, and I felt guilty for a second, with Boldin still on the field, because the thought popped in my mind, "damn, that was an awesome pass!", it must have been a good 30 to 40 yard heave hitting him wit near deadly accuracy for the distance it traveled, withought the hit to the head Boldin would have caught a spectacular TD pass, was the defender purpously trying to hit him in the head, who knows?, as both men were leaping in the air.
Thats the guy(Kurt) I been following since his days in St. Louis, Kurt, the only ex-Ram I have continued to follow after his days with my team, except when he actually plays us, but normally I would be cursing out anyone who pins our ears back, with him, it's like watching your two kids in a boxing match, i just throw my hand up in the air, plus, reckognizing the one kid who I still love, is a jackass(The Rams, for the way they treated this man, combined with all thre other blunders of late, what an embarrasment!). So, anyway, I still say that before a series of really bizare, and uncommon hand injuries effected Kurts game(I strongly believe these past two seasons that that hand, especially his grip returned to normal) , combined with him basically being cut because our then head coach(Martz)was in a fued with his wife(Brenda, ...yeah I know, what was it....PEYTON PLACE, yeah, ask Martz about it....yuuuch!), Kurt was the best qb I ever saw, just my opinion. In the greatest show days he was like a machine, yes he had the talent around him, much like now, but qb is the most important position, and not just anyone can achieve these kind of things(passing records in NFC, S.B wins, MVP awards)just because there is good to above average talent around him.
We know this as football fans. If Warner had got hurt and Jamie Martin(no disrespect, but...), or Paul Justin had to step in for Warner in the greatest show days, the team would have screeched to a hault, there was a significant drop of even when the future pro bowler Green would step in. Here's a little known fact. In 2000" the actual year we(THE RAMS)earned the nickname "GREATEST SHOW ON TURF" from Chris Berman the combo of Warner and Green has the most passing yardage in history at 5100+ yards, eclipsing Marino's 5008. If Warner had not been hurt he alone would have been well beyond the 5008. And his 41 TDS, and 4800+ yards are still NFC records. The thing as a fan that still allways stuck in my mind is his character as well. In 2000 after winning league MVP, and S.B 34 mvp, he was waiting for his contract to be ironed out, not a rich guy at this point by far, the undrafted free agent, made league minimum from the Rams for the 2 previous years, and the RAMS(wow, they showed class!) gave him what they had under the cap for he season in 99", and gave him like a 900,000 dollar bonus, but this was the biggest money this man ever saw, he was far from rich. So as training camp begins Warner signs a three year minimum to go out on the field, and practice! Team, and fans before money, let that sink in for a momment people, in this day, and age. Later on, before the season he would be inked in to a 7 year 40 some odd million dollar contract, one the low life Rams brass would not honor, even team mates like low life Isaac Bruce, and low life Torry Holt would turn on this "team first" throw back from another time,....unbelievable. Plus with all respect to all the fans, and people who watch Kurt, and the Cards, and the Rams, he like myself is Christain, a younger man then me, I still look up to him like a roll model, where ever he is, in St. Louis, or Arizona he is heavily involved in charities, not just talking, or preaching, but walking in JESUS CHRISTS footsteps, leading by example as well as preaching the GOSPEL. Just a character kid, no matter how you cut it. So a guy like Gary, well, me, we all error, then learn, and that's o.k. In the end of that game(Card-Jets), Warner, at half was on fire if you ask me. A real guty performance. He threw that duck up into the corner of the endzone after the Boldin injury, it was clear football was not on his mind anymore. Kurt, if you ever see any of this, first, thanks for everything, second, don't quit till you are holding up that Lombardy again!, people never learn from stories like you've had, that you will come back, again, and again, and again,....I wish my team would not have to learn this the hard way. Shaw, and Zygmount should be ran out of town, and Martz should be banned from the NFL, everytime he steps on the field in ST.LOUIS the fans should throw rotten eggs at him, thousands of eggs beaning that fat headed blow hard, ....drama queen. GO KURT! Scott L. Jinks(SGJINKS) THE RAMMY WHAMMY WILL BE BACK!(when qb's on our team stop crying "I don't want to play for Coach Linehan anymore!....WAAAAAAH!", YOUNGBLOOD is out there right at this momment losing his lunch, over these little buttercups on our team!,....YUUCH!)

i really dont think the pass was intentional to harm anybody its just part of the game ,so to make a statement like the way gary put is really harsh, almost barbaric, but for warner to feel guily about a pass he threw for his team is exactly what he was trying to do was complete a pass,as part of the game things like this will always happen and the only thing we as fans can do about it is to enjoy the games the way it was made for enjoyment and excitement and thats what football does for me is it gives me the hibbi jibbies hahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!but i give credit to warner for being human towards his own receiver lets just hope that bolden recovers 100% from a devastating injury,go cards
