We Need to See More Of Moore

Text Size A A A
If there was any question of who should be the Steelers No. 2 tailback for the rest of the season, it should be answered now.

On a night where the Steelers didn't have any choice but to turn to Mewelde Moore, Moore showed that he deserves to get the ball a whole lot more. If there's a Mewelde Moore fan club, I want to be a member. As we saw on Sunday night, about the only thing Moore hasn't had during his five-year NFL career is a consistent chance to play. Every time he gets the chance to get some consistent carries, he produces.

Man he produced against the Jaguars. He had seven plays (six runs) of eight yards or more. For the eighth time in his career, Moore got more than 15 carries. For the seventh time in those eight games, Moore rushed for more than 90 yards. He's not big enough to be an everydown back, but he does have the shiftiness and speed to break the big play--he showed it again against the Jags as he had runs of 19 and 27 yards.

When the Steelers signed him in March, I wrote that:
Down the road this seems like a move Steelers fans will be liking come October.
At the time I didn't know that that would come true on October 5, but I'm sure glad it did.
