Tony Gonzalez passed Shannon Sharpe for all-time receiving yardage for a tight end. That is the beginning and the end of the good news for the Kansas City Chiefs today. The Carolina Panthers just drilled the Chiefs, 34-0, and took sole possession of first place in the NFC South.
The stat of the game isn't how the Panthers outgained the Chiefs 441 to 127. It isn't that this was the biggest shutout in Panthers history. It is the fact that Carolina held Larry Johnson to just two yards rushing.
Yep. Just one week after nearly topping the 200 yard mark, LJ gained just two yards on seven carries. He now joins quite a list of backs who failed to hit the century mark rushing against the Panthers: LaDainian Tomlinson, Matt Forte, Adrian Peterson and Michael Turner.
The Chiefs passing game was a joke, too. Damon Huard threw for just 86 yards before he was pulled for Tyler Thigpen. The Chiefs gained the smallest amount of yardage in 22 years.
Carolina couldn't relate to KC's problems since their offense was doing anything they wanted.
DeAngelo Williams rushed for 127 yards and scored three TDs (including one receiving). Jonathan Stewart added another 72 yards. Steve Smith caught six passes for 96 yards while Mushin Muhammad added 71 yards and a TD grab.
Carolina is hitting on all cylinders as they enter a huge NFC South showdown against the Buccaneers in Tampa next week. The winner will lead the division. After that, the Panthers will host division foe New Orleans.
It doesn't get any easier for the Chiefs. They will host the Tennessee Titans, one of only two teams who have yet to lose a game this season. They will then have a stretch where they play at the Jets, host the Bucs, at San Diego and then hosting the Saints and Bills.

No surprise. Herman said the Chiefs would play defense when he was hired. No one told him a good offense is the best defense. Pitiful, poor, terrible etc.... I still predict 2 and 14, although I am not sure they will win 2. Look at what the Tuna did for Miami. Let hire Bill and clean house.

Almost 40 years of frustration calls for a regime change.
We have had enough!
I know the Best Tight End in Football did not sign on for this crap.

Back in the 90's the Cheifs use to had great teams and in the playoffs every year. Marty Shottenhymer was coaching them at the time. A couple of my freinds use to always complain about Marty ball. And I would use to say .. What wrong with you guys? We're in the playoffs every year I mean we can be 1and 4. Well it's 2008 and it's ben severial years since we been in the playoffs. I wish we had Old Mary-Ball back. San Diego was running high and then they deside to get rid of Ol'Marty. And then they been heading downward eversince. Beware for what you wish for !!

Don't worry KC Chief #1 Fan, it seems the NFL goes around in cycles. You're in a rebuilding phase and it'll probably take a couple years. We were in that phase too and finally did well enough in the draft and free agency to get where we are now. That being said, if you end up with a dysfunctional coach/owner relationship like the Raiders, Rams, or Lions, you may not ever recover. I don't think KC will be in that situation though.
Anyways, it's a great time to be a Carolina fan (both college and Pro). GO PANTHERS!!! GO HEELS!!!
