ESPN football analyst Mark Schlereth was an NFL player for 13 years, including one year as a teammate of Matt Millen's on the Washington Redskins, when they won the Super Bowl in 1991. And Schlereth had some interesting things to say about Millen today on Mike and Mike in the Morning. Schlereth prefaced his comments by saying he personally likes Millen. "He's a guy that I respect," Schlereth said. "A guy that I love." And then Schlereth unloaded.
"It may be the worst personnel job in the history of the National Football League," Schlereth said. "He was horrible. Matt was -- I mean, it was absolute garbage."
Millen is fond of saying that people who criticize his tenure running the Detroit Lions don't understand the game of football. Is he going to say that Schlereth -- who has played in two Pro Bowls, won three Super Bowl rings and been around the game his entire life -- doesn't understand football? Or might it be that Millen really was, as Schlereth said, absolute garbage.

Millen was really bad. The worst ever? That's debateable. How about the Bengals in the 90s? And does that comment include other sports? The Clippers have managed to mis-manage their personnel for my entire lifetime. The Cincinnati Reds have been terrible for ten or fifteen years. Then there's the Eagles. How can you be one game from the SB three or four years straight and stay 20 million+ under the cap???? And to be fair, Millen drafted quite a few players who were supposed to be SUREFIRE probowlers. It just reconfirms my belief that the draft is a true crapshoot.
