New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been suspended for two weeks for insubordination. Jay Glazer reports:
FOXSports.com has learned that the Giants have suspended Burress for two weeks for failing to show up for work on Monday and not responding to several phone calls by the team to explain his unexcused absence both Monday and Tuesday.Neither Burress nor anyone in the Giants' front office has commented publicly.The star wideout, who was just rewarded with a new lucrative contract three weeks ago, was slated to meet with team officials early this morning to explain why he would've violated team rules and failed to return several phone calls explaining his whereabouts.
The excuse apparently was not good enough and head coach Tom Coughlin told the team this morning of the predicament and subsequent punishment.
The suspension means Burress will miss two weeks worth of pay as well as next week's game vs. the Seahawks.

Usually when someone don't show to work and doesnt pick up their phone to call or answer is cause they are high on something. Might not be the case with Plax, but thats usually the reason.;

Im waiting for Plax to do some sit-ups in his garage while hold a press conference - next question.
Yeah, this doesnt sound good to pull off a bush league move like this. There is more to the story obviously. Coincidently the Giants suspend him on a bye week so they wont lose him for two games, but only for one game.

How is it a coincidence if they suspended him the same week he failed to report to the team?

Its why the guy will never be a Jerry Rice or even C. Carter like. Such a waste. What a shame for a guy to be givin that kinda height,hand/eye coordination, athletic ability, and most importantly he made it through and has the chance to be in the NFL and be a special player but he wont put in the extra work and dedication that it takes to go from "one of the best in the league today" to "one of the greatest of all time". J. Rice did a lot more with much less and its because he WORKED and it and had the heart to want to work at it. Makes me sick because Burress could be really great....

What do you expect from a "player" who never practiced one time during the 2007 season, but somehow miraculously played in every single game? 'Nuff said about his work ethic and dedication to his team. Pittsburgh got rid of him for a reason - Duh.
The guy is an egotistical, prima donna just like T.O. "the B.O. Man," Ocho Psycho, Randy Moss and all the rest of those self centered, self glorifying idiots. They need to be in a freak show, not the NFL. If idiots like Jerry Jones would stop hiring these worthless cancers, we wouldn't have the trash you see with their ridiculous displays for just doing their jobs.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but T.O. has very good work ethic. He might have an attitude problem but every coach has said his ethic is top notch.
Also keep in mind that the majority of top WR's in history have had chips on their shoulders. That is part of the game fortunately, or unfortunately.

Yeah Heather he must work all the time and never sleep right - oh wait except in team meetings and preparation meetings. Yes he does have a work ethic when it comes to preparing his body but "work ethic" involves everything you need to do at you job. That includes being a team player and for god sakes respecting authority enough to at least keep your eyes open like the rest of the team during meetings were important things are going on to prepare your offense or studying film of whatever defense your facing. I agree he has been different in Dallas (still hasnt faced a losing streak or season and that has a lot to do with when he goes into prima donna mode) but if your going to say something like that make to just say his physical work ethic, not all around.

was anyone surprised this happened...i would have been more surprised if this happened later on the season. Here's how this stuff usually goes down.
athlete -> gets 10 + TD's a year -> big contract -> head blows up from ego

This is very disappointing. Of course we don't know what the personal emergency was. You still gotta let your bosses know why you aren't around. What would happen to you if you didn't show up and didn't call into work.....probably the same thing .......if you still had your job.

This is why I love Tom Coughlin! Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Plax fan, but Coach Coughlin did the right thing, and the Giants can still win the next couple weeks without Plaxico.

Congratulations to the Giants and their coach for having a backbone! For the next 14 days, that player is letting his teammates down... What a waste of talent with a bad attitude. All players and fools find out the same thing soon enough, time waits for no one and there is always someone behind you, younger, faster, stronger, cheaper and better... waiting for you to make a mistake. time and the game are hard enough, but for you( player...) to screw yourself out of your talent, stupid !

The first thing I learned as a small child was to catch a football. There were many kids that coldn't, but I had good hands and made a good receiver whenever we played as kids.
Why is it that a whole bunch of great receivers in the NFL think they are better then everyone else and don't have to follow the same rules. All they do is catch a damn football. No big deal. Sometimes they don't even hold onto the damn football and they are getting paid millions.
I've been a Giant fan my whole life and I know Plexico had a great year for us last year, but please don't turn into anoth idiot Owens or Moss.
