The Arizona Cardinals entered today's game with the Washington Redskins at 2-0 for the first time since 1991 (when current Redskins coach Joe Bugel was their head coach). They wanted to be the first Cards team to get to 3-0 since 1974. They also wanted to beat the Redskins for the first time in seven meetings (and second of nine matchups).
Mistakes greatly hindered that. The Cardinals lost 24-17 due to drops, turnovers and bad penalties.
Arizona committed their first turnovers this season and failed to reach 20 points for the first time in ten games (dating back to last season). Even though their penalties weren't out of hand, they can at bad moments. On a 4th-and-1, the Cards were called for a delay of game penalty as they completed a pass for a sure TD.
They also had a variety of penalties on kick and punt returns -- negating some nice runs.
You also have to give a ton of credit to the Redskins. All phases of the Redskins game were clicking today.
The defense slowed down the explosive Cardinals to just 17 points (again, the first time in ten games that Arizona was held under 20 points). Kurt Warner passed for just 197 yards. Yes, Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald caught TDs ... but they struggled throughout the game. Boldin caught just three passes for 25 yards. Fitzgerald did catch seven balls, but 62 of his 109 yards were his one TD catch.
The Redskins offense also looked sharp. Jason Campbell had great control of the game, completing 22-of-30 for 193 yards and two TDs. He continued to find a sizzling Santana Moss (sixth straight game with a TD) and re-discovered Chris Cooley.
And after a rough start to his career, punter Durant Brooks and the Redskins coverage teams did a nice job pinning Arizona deep in their end of the field.
Both teams wanted this game as they both have tough schedules ahead. Arizona will stay on the East Coast and face the New York Jets next week before hosting Buffalo and Dallas before their bye week. Washington goes on the road to NFC East foes Dallas and Philadelphia before

Your an idiot, Joe Gibbs was the coach in 1991, and that was the last year they won the super bowl. Bugel was never the head coach.

yeah ... I messed up the "Joe" Bugel.
But, Pete, Bugel WAS the coach for the Cardinals in 1991 ... when the Cards were last 2-0. Please read it.
Oh, and the crossing out of "the bye week" was a dig at the Rams, Eric. They are a bad team ... so playing them would be like a bye. Get it?

HOOOOORAY!,
I waited almost 5 years for this! JEFF GEORGE JR. IS BENCHED!!!!! Never could stand this kid. It's the first time I ever really personally disliked a player, where it got in the way of my pure child-like love of my team, I struggled to root for him through the years. And I was one of those guys who could'nt even root for the my team to lose when you were over nine losses, you new the season was over, and you were just thinking" It's better off if we just lose, and get good draft picks!", not even then, but some times I would root fro the D", and the backs, and special teams, and root for Bulger to screw up, it was like being scitzophrenic, but you remember as a kid your pure child like love of your team, then you take it into your adult life, and then you start to see things withought the rose colored glasses, guys like Bruce, and Holt, and Turley whining , and cackling like little girls about Bulger over Warner, after Warner led them(Bruce, and Holt, no rings for you Kyle, you shot your self in the foot on that one my friend, with your big mouth!) to two S.B's in a three year span, and we only lost the second because of cheating, and dirty tactics by the PATS, Warner was blamed for that loss, and it was all B.S anyway.
Martz our head coach having a fued with our qb' s wife leads to the ousting of our MVP/franchise qb. To this day, Martz is still not crediting Warner as being his best qb he ever coached, he often said Bulger was better, now T.J, or J.T O'Sullivan is better, or the best he ever trained, how about the SUPER BOWL 34 MVP?, and the guy who won two league MVP's?, the guy who still has records for the most yards passed, and most tds thrown in the NFC CONFERENCE?, you think Martz is in denial?, Even when Martz was aproached about the PATS cheating he blamed it on the turnouvers in the game and balked at the pats cheating, it was better to blame Warner, does anyway compute this? And Martz is well aware , way before spygate that Belicheck was abusing the bumping the wideouts rule within the 5 yards in that game, ask Faulk about that! The COLTS mild mannered Dungy had to go to the league about that, the abuse the Colts recievers got, and the way it threw off Mannings timming, you see when the rule was updated, and the PATS could'nt do it to the Colts, the Colts beat em in the Championship that year. Yeah, Brady was still getting the defensive allignments, and blitzes, and what not radioed into his helmet so it was close, but everyone wonders why Warner looked so off, the PATS distruped the timing with dirty play(And Brady new the Rams D" allignments, as we played them during the year, and we won ofcoarse!), Faulk said after the game, Willie McGhinest was practically tackling him to the ground in that 5 yard area, our most dangerous weapon out of the backfield, as LB's and safeties could'nt cover him, heck he would rip past corners sometimes. The PATS did'nt need Matt Walshes tape of the RAMS walkthroughs, thats why Belicheck laughed that off, still guys in your walk through taking notes isn't great either! Well, got off of the subject of Jeff George Jr. bieng benched fo a minute, just wanted to paint a picture of how ugly it can get, something I have a great passion for has become so sleazy, and tarnished, and even caddy(speaking of Martz, and his BYATCHES), yeah , you know money causes problems, as you get older, but this stuff is just nauseiating. Anyway, it's sad about Bulger in one way, I remember watching a pre-season game against Miami in 2001, Bulger came out, and I was amazed at his quick release, I yelled to my wife, "Look at this kid, there's our Steve Young!' Because, in my mind I was compairing us to our hated. but respected rivals dynasty years, I believed we could win three superbowls before the age, and free agents vultures did us in like the 90's Dallas team(BULGER could be like a YOUNG, and maybe bring us more glory after the Warner years were over, I thought). When we started out 0-5 in 2002, i was thinking, yeah it was premature, but anyway, I was thinking, I hope they put in that kid Bulger, if Martz gets fired(again a premature concern), a new coach may clean out some people, and Bulger may slip through, and end up elsewhere, that to me was alarming, and didnt know Jamie Martin was hurt that week, and Bulger was going to start anyway(against the RAIDERS). It was electric, when this young man took us to 5 straight wins before he got hurt, combined with Warners hand healing. I thought, "We have our qb for the future!" So it was one bright spot during a horrible campain,....but wait a minute! An hour before the RAM-NINER game on Monday Night, the last game of the season in 02", I call my old friend Stuart, that I had met in a sports bar in Jersey, fellow die hard RAM FAN, from the 50's no less, could talk to you about "CRAZY LEGS" Hirche, and what not. Anyway, he tells me there's some kind of fued going on between Brenda Warner, and Martz about a comment she made on a radio show, I'm scratching my head,....."Huh?",.... it's all not registering right away, you know because men coach(is MARTZ one, now in 2008, I wonder this?), and play football, what the hell is my friend even talking about I'm thinking???? Anyway, he goes on to say Martz said that there will be an open competition between Bulger, and Warner in camp, my mouth just hung open, I may have dropped the phone, I don't remember, anyway, I'm thinking your going to have, an open competition between a two time league MVP, and super bowl MVP, and this talented, yet wet behind the ears kid?,....WHAT? Later on I finally got it, even though Martz changed his mind, he still pullled Warner after only one game the following year, Sadly for Warner I heard Denver, and Shanahan was interested in Warner, that may have worked out well for him especially wit the great O"line, rb's, and play action pass type O", they run, and Martz(this is just my belief) new all along Warner was done, then they cut him like garbage at the end of the year. And it was all about the fued with Brenda, aint that the darndest thing of all, if you think I bare false witness, or am guessing, go back to the way Martz acts to this day, allways trying to down play how good Warner actually is, Martz is the most giant scumbag of all, I don't know if he's worse than Belicheck, but he is obviously more petty, and caddy, which is weird in the world of mens football. So, then comes the character of Bulger, first he doesnt thank Warner for not steping in at half, when Bulger was struggling(during a bad game in Chicago, Bulger threw 11 int. in one month during that season an NFL record, we were so good all around the ball we won anyway, yet, as bad as Bulger played, including losing homefield advantage in a loos to the lowly lions, and a poor playoff game which we lost, he was voted to the pro bowl????, just some fun facts), Warner refuses to go in, sais to Martz, "If this is your guy, let him stay in and learn!", a sports writer for SPORTS ILLUSTRATED calls out Bulger for not thanking him, allthough, I love Warner, a guy with a great heart, but I disagree with that move, anyway, Warner does'nt have one malicious bone in his body, so it was weird, but nice,....so.... the writer calls out Bulger, and a week later, or at least a few days later I see Bulger at the podium thanking Warner, it was so transparent, and just aweful. Then a few weeks later, I think in Arizona, Bulger throws a td pass, the guys on the sideline are greating Bulger with pats on the helmet, and high fives, Warner comes over to high five him, or what ever, and he pushes Warner out of the way! I ask my wife, "Did I see that right!" My wife confirmed what I had seen, man, my wife dispises this kid more than me, if that's possible, anyway, then in the offseason, right before Warner is cut like a piece of trash, I reads an article where SPORTS ILLUSTRATED's DR Z is saying a RAM player/informant is telling him Bulger requested that the coaches keep Warner awy from him during the games? my mouth hung open, I was in shock, are men still playing for the RAMS I thought! Jack Youngblood would just be vomiting in the corner somewhere at the thought of this little buttercup! I was sick, then I remembered in my minds eye. I remember Warner calling the plays into Bulgers helmet, wired up, clip board in hand, allways talking to Martz, you know Warner for anyone that's watched him, Warner needs something to do, I love this human being, and am not making fun of him, I just wonder does he have some hiper active disorder or condition, he looks like he can't sit still, anyway, then I remember shortly after that famous "PUSH", Warner moping on the sideline, not even with the headset on, or clip board(and I believe Warner doing nothing is like torturing the guy, and that sucks!), I thought, "That report is right, punk Bulger did request that un-manly request!"
Wow, I have allways depised Bulger, and Martz since those weird years(02" and 03", you can call them "THE MRS DOUBTFIRE YEARS", as ESPNS, Dan Lebetard decscribed martzs "giddy" reaction, to a posative play during the loss to CAR in the division round, he called him MRS. DOUBTFIRE!) Funny about Martz, how naive I was, when they made him the head coach, I thought, "Well at least one thing, this guy will allways at least keep this powerful offense together !"....you would think if anything else...ANYTHING ELSE!....he would keep the "GREATEST SHOW " offense together till they were old, and gray, and patch up the D" side with free agency(you could allways do a 96" PANTHERS with the D" I thought). This is what I was thinking,....he could'nt even do that. Why you ask?, because in Martz's mind it was never about the talent, it was about him, and his system, I have heard he blames the front office for losing all the talent after the superbowl years, and I'm sure they did bumble on some of that, but if you ask me, simply because of the ousting of Warner, and I know he was down on Hakim(I suspect he booted him out the door personally, I can't swear to it, and ex Colt wide out Wilkins was such a great replacement!), so I'm guessing he booted him out the door, in short, maybe just my beliefs, I don't want to bare false witness, but "I" beleive Martz allways thought he could put any pieces(or players rather) in his system, and win. Unfortunetely, I think John Shaw thought it was Martz's genius as well. I like to be fair, Martz was an itegrall part of the championship, he's a good qb coach, and a great O" coordinator, the "AIR-CORYELL" style O" was tailor made for Warner, and the O", it was perfect, too bad Martz was not more like one of his mentors Zampese, who allways turned down head coach offers from Shaw to remain a coordinator, his passion. What could have been. Well, the bad character of Bulger is finally showing on the field, I think it remains to be seen how the team functions with a new leader, and field manager, we got lots of problems, I'm not a moron, but, just to see someone in there but that jackass, it is such a lift for me, I could cry, I'm so happy, but don't worry YOUNGBLOOD, I wont do that! AnNd as I mentioned in other posts, hope is allways there, I mean for our team, and even for the man....Marc Bulger. I saw this with Jerome Bettis, he whined and pouted during our inagrial season in ST.LOUIE, so much so, that then head coach Rich Brooks benched him, "FOR OPENING DAY" no less, a tough road game against a good PACKER team which we won(Chris Miller was a record 8tds, and 0 picks in the first 4 games in which we went 4-0, he suffered a concussion at the end of the Bear game, which was allready well in hand, after that he, and WE fell apart, so see how a team can be so different witht he play of the qb, and we had no "HOGS" on that line back then either, and our D" went on to let up over 400 pts when all was said, and done, just fun facts), anyway that was a good win, but Bettis whined on, and was traded, he shined in PITT, and after a game where he, and the Steelers just steamrolled over us, Shaw told Brooks, and GM Ortmeyer, they had to turn things around that season(I think it was half way through, and we were obvious roadkill allready)or they were done, they never did. Bettis also squwaked on about us when he was over there doing well, I "HATED" this man, with a capital "H" What a punk I always thought, yeah he ran over people like a bus, but his heart was like a little daphidil to me, what a baby I thought. You know what though,.... the man grew up, that's all, like we see now with T.O. The Steelers had this one rare losing year under Cowher, he was a free agent, still in his prime at the time, sure to make big buck whereever he went, and i'm sure with a winner which was a big issue with him, he stayed put, I even think he made huge conssesions to remain at PITT in the end when he was an aging vet, some were finacial as well, I gaines quite abit of respect for this man. People can change, I hope Bulger does, but maybe for someone else, maybe somewhere down the road, I allways hated when the RAMS let talented people go, but I want to see this man go, I don't care. I cant beleive the last L.A RAM is a 49er, that guy has the character of a huge glob of pond scum!, it tarnishes my memmories of that beautiful catch in 34, and others like it, what a prick! Well those two giant pricks can be happy together over there. BULGER IS BENCHED, HOOORAY. and I ran out of stuff to say.....HOORAY!(for you guys), sorry, I can rant on, and on sometimes, if you stayed on through all of this you are a real DIE HARD! Next big wish, forget firing Linehan, I could care less(he's a goat, no pun intended), WHEN SHAW IS FIRED I WILL LOSE MY MIND! It can only come with a new owner, but this could happen, is a new owner going to let Shaw just run things like he's the owner, and answers to no one, maybe the new owner will also shine Shaws shoes, and bring coffee and donuts to his office, give him a neck rubs when he's a little stressed,.....HARDY, HAR, HAR, just like Bulger was doing last week for the first time, he was looking opver his shoulder, and he was right to, Shaw will be doing it for the first time if old Chipper sells. And believe me, don't get the wrong impression from earlier posts, I have nothing against Mr. Rosenbloom, it's just that, he was never involved with the team for like the 30 some odd years that his mother was in controll(Georgia, and Carol R.I.P), so it seemed to me this is not his passion, theres nothing to be ashamed about, everyone doesnt like football, I hate basketball, if someone left me a pro basketball team, I would sell it, because I would be horrible at being an owner of something I had no passion for, and little knowledge of, so we are allready hearing rumours of selling the team, "SELL IT MAN!", or....put someone competant in charge of the team, how are we going to get a "COWHER", you know , a PARCELLS TYPE BIG-BOY with "SHAW" looming over the man, we won't get the "TUNA" type guy with SHAW there, no way!, so fans stop the "BILL COWHER" stuff, I know, I do it, but it aint gonna happen with SHAW looming around. No one should have absolute power anyway, except for the owner, how can this be anyway, but it is, it is what it is, SHAW IS THE RMS OWNER as far as I'm concerned!, or might as well be, he answers to no one,....NO ONE!(this is not good) I will give Shaw one thing, he did not fire Linehan last year, after that train wreck of injuries, I thought he showed some class with that move. Can people change?, ofcoarse, I can't lie, I will always be scared with Shaw in charge, because how can you ever get past, the leagues worst organiazation of the 90's(even the Bengles went to a playoff game in the 90's, we even had more losses than them in the decade going into the 99" season), you do make a good move here or there like Shaw did(Vermeil, Armey, forcing Vermeil to get rid of Banks), I'll give credit when it's due,.... then.... you interfere with what you helped build, and the whole thing crashes to the ground, and now your a laughing stock again!????,....?....Even if Shaw does stay, and we turn around under his continued regime, I think Chip has to make it public somehow that even Shaw has someone to answer too, Shaw would probably laugh at Chip if he tried to get all "ownery" on him, you know, but, I hope if nothing else even an old dog like Shaw learns from his mistakes, if something aint broke,....DON'T FIX IT!(ah....THE 99" RAMS!) Could you imagine the Dick Vermeil RAMS going on after the 99"season, yeah the cheating PATS would have huert us along the way, but things would have been better. If nothing else we wouldn't have had egocentric Martz firing coaches before the 2000 season, and demoting our co-defensive coordinator, and changing all this stuff for no pparent reason, except that he's an ass! We know the rest, our D" fell apart, and it kept us from a defense of our championship, all because big shot martz had to come in firing people, and demoting fellow coordinators right after a S.B win?, wow, it just makes your head spin, wow, you just think what could have been. I said to my wife, if Martz, and Belicheck were driving home from some NFL coaches meeting in the offseason before 2000, swerved off the road, crashed, and both men were in a coma for 7 years, the RAMS would have won 2, or three S.B's in that time, and may still be fairly competative, even to this very day, makes you think man! Well, ....THE RAMMY WHAMY WILL BE BACK ONE DAY!"...Scott(SGJINKS)
