DeSean Jackson isn't the reason the Eagles lost to the Cowboys on Monday night, but he'll undoubtedly be the topic of conversation Tuesday morning. Earlier, MDS documented the unintentional comedy/horror depending on your team allegiances, but a quick refresher for those of you who missed it (or just want to relive the fun): Midway through the second quarter, Jackson hauled in what appeared to be a 61-yard touchdown pass from Donovan McNabb. Except that he threw the ball behind him right before he crossed the goal line, which, to most people (yes, Ed, I'm looking at you) is a fumble. (Watch the video below.)
The Eagles would eventually get the ball at the one-yard line and score a play later, so it didn't affect the outcome. But Jackson, the team's 2008 second-round pick, has a history of doing dumb stuff, and apparently his proximity to the end zone aggravates his condition.
For example*:
Jackson had broken free for an apparent 53-yard touchdown reception in the 2005 Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome when he spread his arms in a swan dive and dove toward the end zone. He landed at the 1-yard line. Fortunately for him, Jackson caught seven passes for 141 yards and threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to earn MVP honors as his West team won 35-3. "I redeemed myself with a great game," the Long Beach, Calif., athlete said. "It was a little embarrassing, but I did it, so I just had to move on."And Jackson moved right on to a repeat performance last night. (Embarrassing photographic evidence here.) But much like the all-star game, he put up some big numbers against the Cowboys: 6 receptions for 110 yards. Shockingly, no touchdowns, however.

To be fair, DeSean doesn't have a "long history of not scoring tcouchdowns."
He never had a premature celebration in college. In fact, he rarely did celebrate excessively in college after a TD.

Rob, To be fair. If you blow a touchdown ONCE because you celebrated to early wouldn't you learn not to celebrate until you are in the end zone?
Doing a bone-headed self centered move like this TWICE is a history most football players would rightfully be ashamed of.
It is not like making a mistake in a game, dropping a pass or fumbling. This is costing your TEAM a touchdown because you are showing off, trying to be cool. I truly hoped a Dallas player would fall on the ball recovering the fumble even though I wanted Philly to win.
You don't redeemed yourself by having a great game.
Hopefully Jackson has enough sense to apologize to his teammates.

that was almost as bad as McNabbs 2 fumbles,( his last one , are you kidding me !). His decisions under pressure are so scrambled with fraught, he can't even hand the ball off effectively to his constant out man # 36. That along with the suicide bomber of turf passes at or around the turf/ankle areas show serious signs of gross indecision at the helm, not good leadership qualities. At least he found the center this time! AND, he has a nice smile. Andy, we will never win a Super Bowl with your # 1 draft pick, even if he has outlasted the rest of that years QB's. Good athlete, a stud, but an average quarterback at getting the job done. Too many achilles heels. Start up the Kolb engine, like Green Bay did. This city is not about just getting to the dance, we want to bring the prize home , and it ain't happening with McNabb.

DeSean's coach should make him run the length of the field crossing the goal line 100 times. In grade school my teacher made me write my mistakes on the black board 100 times so I'd remember in the future.

A question: had an alert cowboys player picked up the ball and run in the opposite direction, would it have been legal?

To answer your question Mike, yes, once he released the ball, it was a fumble; any Cowboy could have recovered and run back. What a stupid play. Fortunately Westbrook ameliorated Jackson's faux pas on the next play.

That was stupid enough but what bothers me -- being a cowboys fan for 30+ years is that none of the cowboys picked the ball up and tried to return it. WHO WAS THE BIGGER IDIOTS ? Terrible play on the Cowboys part

Enough of the celebration. Get back into the huddle, or go to the sideline. Period!!! We pay to see you play, not celebrate. What a bozo! The coach should fine him one games salary for that!
