Curt Schilling may or may not be retiring. The former would mean less "schilling" (a new verbal use of the word which MLB FanHouse coined to mean 'blowing copious amounts of hot air') to the media, in theory. Although if today is any indication, maybe not.See, Schill got on WEEI radio and waxed somewhat correctly about the state of sports in New York and Boston. And how people hate Tom Brady.
"People don't like [New England/Boston] anymore. The euphoria in New York is palpable. The Yankees suck this year, and they're bitter and mad and they're making excuses over that. Now they got Tom going down, so New York is excited."I use "somewhat" because I don't think every New Yorker is excited to see Brady out for the season. In fact, I think at least like 15% of New Yorkers (legit ones, not transplanted Bostonians) would say they're sad to see the Golden Boy hurt.
However, Schilling is dead-on-b-accurate about the general public's feelings towards Boston. They're the new New York in terms of having winning teams whose fan base refuses to stop being generally obnoxious about their teams.
Oh and yes, the Yankees might not be "great" this year. But I don't know that there's a direct correlation between "no playoffs" and "wish for Tom Brady to get hurt."
Gracias to TBL for the quote

I love the Yankees. I hate the Red Sox. I hate Boston. I don't hate Tom Brady. Tom Brady is a Yankee fan anyway. I enjoyed more than anything watching their 19-0 dreams go right down the drain from our boy, now man - Eli Manning.
I don't root for anyone to get hurt like Brady did. Not even Varitek. I wouldn't mind kicking Schilling in his bloody ankle though.

No true fan wants an injury. Okay, maybe Jets fans are happy. We Giants fans figure we did okay against Brady in the Super Bowl, so why would his being out matter? And yeah, the Yankees do suck this year, but as far as hating the Sox, we figure the Angels will take care of this one for us.

Curt Schilling has too much time on his hands. He is what is wrong in sports today -- opiniated jocks with no clue about real wordly issues that are important.
To say that New Yorkers are happy that someone incurs an injury during a football game is absurd. New Englanders are always sensitive regarding New Yorkers in general, perhaps they have penis envy or feel somewhat inadequate.
Sports in general is so consumming to those that have very little in their lives; it is not that important. What matters is your family, friends and helping others.
I really couldn't care less about the QB of the Patriots or the Giants; they won't find a cure for cancer. Brady's social skills with his good looks really doesn't make life better for anyone but himself.
But Schilling, I would like to see him, but not hear from him on a slow boat to an isolated island filled with Yankee fans.
He is the biggest jerk that ever played in New England.

What Schilling doesn't get is that while those in Boston may always thinking about New York, New Yorkers rarely think of Boston. We have better things to do. And no, while we are excited about the Jets this year, I have not met ONE person happy about Brady getting injured.
But don't let the facts get in your way, Curt.

schilling how do you know that n.y.fans are happy. you must be in annother steroid stupor.i think brady is a little over rated, there are
at least 6 Q.Bs in the NFL capable of doing the same with that team as brady.schilling i have a red marker if you want to put annother mark on your socks.open your mouth when you win 300 games
you will never make the hall has-been.

I would love to see you name 3 other than P Manning, Brees and maybe Romo(with no playoff wins)? Don't give me D.A. and his one year, Palmer or McScabb either! That's a really ridiculous statement to say 6 other QB's could win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. Some might have the physical tools but Brady has a WINNERS MENTALITY too!

why would anyone let this broken down old man on their radio show? he's obviously just trying to get his name in the news because no one reads his moronic blog.
the truth is that the majority of jets fans are mets fans...and mets fans generally root for the red sox because met fans usually hate yankee fans...this has nothing to do with the yankees sucking this year.
i think the word suck should go with teams who are below .500. The main reason the yankees are not in the playoffs is due to injury? does that sounds familiar Curt?
I think new yorkers are just happy to know that the boston football fans won't be enjoying very much this season...

Boston has a football team? I remember Schilling, he's the ex-baseball player famous for his failure to secure a sponsorship deal with Heinz despite smearing his hosiery with their ketchup.

NY has a football team? Oh, yeah, the Bills. And as a Pats fan I rooted for them, fruitlessly, all 4 years in a row in the SB. Always AFC, unless it is the Jersey Jets, or the Raiders. The fans of neither deserve such joy. And Schilling has a huge mouth, and sad political affiliations (the current President is yes, the worst ever). He pitched his guts out, and did play through pain that most would have folded from (bloody sock) but even Sox fans have to smile and nod as he goes by.
That being said...NY fans jumping for joy at the news of Brady's injury doesn't surprise me too much. But this is a blessing in disguise....if BB wins it again this year he can take all the 'cheater' naysayers from last year and step on their damn necks as he hoists another trophy high.

You can hate schilling, but he isn't lying. Many NY & NFL fans cheered at Brady's injury. Even said it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. huh? What is Brady Osama Bin Laden now? Hey it is their right...freedom of speech and all. They are now being called on their bad behavior but do not want to own it. Well the way I see it is that the Patriots would have been considered losers if they did anything less than win the SB, now they will be considered winners if they play well enough to get into the playoffs. Really does not feel so bad to be the underdog again. Great motivation.

I am so sick of Curt Schilling. I am a long-time avid New York sports fan through the good time and bad - Yankees, Giants and Knicks. Years ago, I could not stand the Cowboys or Red Sox, but over the years, mellowed out about that. I began to respect (and still do) other teams, and hate to say it, even admire what the Red Sox have done recently.
Still, there is no comparison between the teams over the long haul. The Celtics are another story. They can compare.
I have sort of sat and "taken it" with all the shots and general obnoxiousness some Red Sox fans have given out the last several years...very long time coming. Meanwhile, I always have sat quietly as have the Yankees as an organization, and let the results do the talking. Hank has a big mouth, as did George, but generally the Yankees and their fans are very classy and knowledgeable.
With Schilling, this comment is too much. It seems every few months he has to bash New York, the Yankees and their fans. He is sickening. He used to be a great, big game pitcher, but now all he can do is talk and rant. He thinks he knows what everyone thinks.
Some fans might be happy Brady is hurt, but this happens in any city, any team. I personally am not at all happy when he or anyone gets hurt, and am very glad the Giants beat the Golden Boy in the Super Bowl last year.
It is true sports in New England is very strong now, and they should enjoy it. The Yankees will be back and the Giants will still be good even without Strahan and Osi. One can only hope for the Knicks.
