While most of New England is coming to grips with the idea that Tom Brady's 2008 season is in the books, and more sobering, Matt Cassel is the future, New York -- the New York Post, in particular -- took great delight in the the Jets' sudden change in fortunes. I think the back page of today's rag pretty much says it all: "Bring on the Pats", followed by the unimaginably less subtle: "Yahoo!: Brady out for Year."
Yep, I'm pretty sure somebody's definitely going to hell over that last one. Look, I dislike Brady as much as the next guy who doesn't drink the Kool-Aid, but I'd never celebrate the his knee getting blowed up. He's fun to hate because he's so good, otherwise it's sorta overkill.
But Favre-mania has gripped New York, and that resounding six-point win over the mighty Dolphins yesterday, coupled with Brady's injury, has emboldened Jets fans (or at least those who write headlines and try to sell papers).
I suspect this'll be part of the round-the-clock Brady'08 media blitz, and if there's a silver lining, head coach Bill Belichick's found his motivational angle: you know all those times he's convinced his players that nobody believed in them and they somehow channeled that perceived slight into gutty on-field performances? Well, you got your wish, Bill; nobody on the planet thinks the Pats have a chance this season. Including Tom Brady.
UPDATE: A reader makes what should be an obvious point: the "Yahoo!: Brady Out for Year" header is probably pointing out that Yahoo! the web site broke the story, which must make CBS Sportsline very unhappy. I'd like to think that's giving the Post too much credit, but it's more likely the case that I'm not very smart. Moving on...

I'm pretty sure the Yahoo! is the website that broke the story first about Brady's injury ... not a celebration.

That is only funny because Tom Brady is so arrogant. Regardless with him out the Jets chances of getting to the playoffs have dramatically increased, so I can understand. No one is happy that he is hurt, I hope that he can rehab and come back as good as new next year. This is going to be one of the darker periods in Tom Brady's life for sure.

No injury like this one is funny if you are a true SPORTSFAN. You people can say all you want about Brady but the bottom line is that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league - regardless of what team you route for.

Tom Brady is arrogant? Um, since when? He's one of the humblest guys in the league. Favre, on the other hand, while talented is definitely arrogant with this summer being a great example.

anyone who has ever worked in news knows editors tend to be slick, witty and cunning, especially in devising headlines. I don't think there's any way on earth that this wasn't meant to have a double meaning. So it still lacks class.

True Yahoo might have broke the story but you can bet the new york post and fans are high fiving on mass ( no pun intended) this morning.. And riods show me one single time Brady ever came off as boastful or arrogant ! The man is a class act who never puts down any opponents, and treats them all with respect.. He’s won 3 super bowls an MVP award and should be the highest paid player in the NFL yet repeatedly restructures his contract to bring in new or keep talent around him.. I hope he gets well soon, you would think someone who chooses to keep a home in your city would get treated a bit better

I wonder what the Jets fans will say if the patriots beat the Jets without Brady.
On paper, they are still the better team no doubt.

I'll tell you what they'll say.. The Pats are cheaters blah blah blah. Brady is a great player, the Patriots are a great team, and the Jets will be sitting next to the stankees watching New England in the playoffs.

I'm or was a Greenbay fan until Thompson pulled the rug from under Favre. The Brady injury is a sad one, I wish him well . I dont really feel that his loss will make it easier for that division. A Super Man is gone, he will be replaced by a competent backup. I'm still a Favre fan and will be cheering for the Jets.

I am a HUGE Patriots hater, and I do feel bad for Tom Brady. Nobody deserves an injury like that (although the Patriots were overdue for a bad break). I would never cheer such an injury. Also, the Jets are still the Jets, and it will take a VERY DEEP brush to scrub out the deep-rooted stench of losing that's in that organization's blood. Their chances are much better now, but they could still EASILY lose to to Patriots. They beat Miami, and had a hell of a time doing it. Whoop-dee-do.

Classless? Where did you get that from. Hate the guy or the team all you want but there is one of the classiest guys in sports. Reminds me of Tiger Woods with his humble admoration for others. If the PGA lost Tiger (their spokesman) the tour would be weaker Same now with Brady out some interest will be lost. However the NFL is bet on so that will keep the flame lit no matter how the league preaches against gambling. I
