Today's game against the St. Louis Rams will kick off the 10th year of the Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid era in Philadelphia. After a decade together, you'd think Big Red would reward the franchise QB with a stud receiver or two.
Jason Avant, Hank Baskett, and DeSean Jackson aren't exactly household names. But with Kevin Curtis out with a sports hernia and Reggie Brown looking doubtful, those three guys will be Donovan McNabb's starting receivers today against the Rams.
Fear not, Eagles fans. While there's no stud in that bunch, the Eagles also have a healthy tight end in L.J. Smith and perhaps the best receiving running back in the game, Brian Westbrook. Throw in the Birds' speedy new half back addition of Lorenzo Booker and the Eagles can certainly catch some passes without their top two guys in the line up.
If the Rams are as bad as they were last year (by most accounts they aren't) the Eagles should be able to get away with not having their top two receivers. Gambling guru Brandon Lang likes the Eagles to win and cover. But in a prime time match up next week on Monday Night Football the Eagles could be in trouble without Curtis and Brown against the highly touted Dallas Cowboys.
Many eyes will be on rookie wideout DeSean Jackson who will get a chance to make plays as a rookie, something most Eagles never really get a chance to do.
With Hanna wreaking havoc all over the East Coast and Temple having played UConn at the Linc on Saturday, conditions could be muddy. Brian Westbrook and Stephen Jackson could have busy days.
If this didn't quite get you pumped for Eagles football today, perhaps my "Eagles Eve" post from last night could get you a little more amped for the smell of cut grass on this fine Sunday.
