Matt Millen's Brilliant Off-Season Moves Lead Lions to 8th Straight Year of Futility

Remember how Lions President Matt Millen explained that he traded away defensive tackle Shaun Rogers -- even though he thinks Rogers is going to be the best defensive player in the NFL this year? Yeah, that probably wasn't such a good idea.

Without Rogers, the Lions' defensive line was pathetic today, giving up 318 rushing yards in a 34-21 loss to the Falcons. The Falcons' offensive line pushed the Lions up and down the field all day long, and the Lions looked like they didn't know what hit them.

The Lions may be the worst team in the league, just as they've been the worst team in the league over the course of Millen's seven-year tenure at the helm of the team. It's stunning that a man can take over a 9-7 team, as Millen did in January of 2001, and run that team into the ground while suffering no consequences at all. But despite Lions' fans pleas, Millen hasn't been fired and won't be fired. Lions owner William Clay Ford doesn't care whether his team wins or loses, and as a result, he's perfectly content to stick with Millen for the team's eighth straight season of futility.
