McCain Campaign Hopes Giants-Redskins Ends in 3 Hours: 'Don't Mention Overtime'

In March I noted that Barack Obama would be cheering for overtime in the NFL season opener. Now we're just an hour and a half away from the Giants-Redskins kickoff and just four and a half hours away from John McCain taking the stage at the Republican National Convention, and the McCain campaign is admitting to some nervousness about overtime.

McCain spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker told the Washington Post that the convention planners' attitude is simple: "Don't mention overtime."

The NFL moved up the kickoff time by an hour in an attempt to get the game over with before McCain's speech, but the league says it won't do anything to speed the game up: Normal halftime, normal commercial breaks, etc. So if Giants-Redskins runs long, McCain will miss a chance to appeal to football fans.
