Cincinnati Bengals Confirm Chad's Jersey Will Show His New Last Name: Ocho Cinco

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Ocho Cinco will wear his new last name on his jersey this season, the Bengals confirmed today.

The team released this statement:

"Effective today, the Bengals begin the process of listing the former Chad Johnson as Chad Ocho Cinco for all club business, per the legal change of his surname effected in Florida. The list of appropriate changes will include the player wearing the name Ocho Cinco on the back of his jersey for Sunday's season opener at Baltimore."

There's been speculation since news of the name change first broke last month about whether the league would permit "Ocho Cinco" to appear on the back of its officially licensed jerseys. The NFL said today that it will allow the receiver formerly known as Chad Johnson to wear Ocho Cinco on his back because it is, in fact, his legal surname.

The league is expected to begin selling Ocho Cinco jerseys next week, and they will surpass Brett Favre's jerseys for the top sellers in the league -- at least until Favre legally changes his last name to Cuatro.

???!! Guy is a "douche" for wanting to change his last name to Ocho Cinco?! He's out there trying to have fun in a league that does EVERYTHING to strip players of their identity. Now I enjoyed watching Barry Sanders back in the day, but I couldn't stand when he'd score on an electrifying 75 yarder and then casually place the ball in the hands of the nearest ref while practically yawning on his way to the sidelines. Show some excitement! Hell, folks are in the stands screaming with their faces painted after a long work weeks and didn't come to watch football players act like golfers. Have fun out there and make the game as entertaining as possible.

I like the fact that Chad Ocho Cinco did what he did with his last name. It's great attention for the Bengals organization and Chad, it's called exposure!!

Not only is he talented but the guy can draw a crowd. With this, ticket sells go up, jersey sells go up and it all creates cash!

Completely ridiculous, it is always about attention when it comes to Chad. All of those that think this is great for the revenue aspect of the game are right. On the other hand what about his family do they get any consideration. Poor Chad's mother and father...Oh your Ocho Cinco's mom you must be so proud. I would think that Chad's mom or dad would want their son to be remembered as a great NFL player bearing the same last name that they share Johnson. Instead of the NFL player in desperate need of attention Ocho Cinco. Shut up and play the game. Just maybe, and I mean just maybe, if Chad would put up some numbers like say Randy Moss. He would be remembered as a great NFL player. Instead of being league top reciever, Chad is in first place for league drama queen. In closing didyougetcut, I am not mad at Chad for having all THAT stuff. Mostly everyone thinks he is the laughing stock of footbal for having THAT last name.
