Four months ago, the Redskins used their three second-round picks on skill-position players. Specifically pass catchers, presumably in an effort to bolster a pretty pedestrian offense. Makes sense and unlike previous Danny-tastic personnel moves, selecting Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly and Fred Davis was understandable (if excessive).
Well, Washington's season begins Thursday night against the Giants, and both Thomas and Kelly have been supremely ineffective. This makes Jason Campbell very, very sad.
"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed about that," he said about Thomas and Kelly. "We had so much expectation for those guys contributing to our offense. I thought we'd grow together quickly. I went over to their place and visited with them about everything. I told them this was the real deal. They needed to show up on time for meetings and to study. We need them out there."I guess Campbell's already given up on Davis.
To Thomas' credit, he admits to having trouble adjusting to life in the NFL.
"I always talk to Jason and try to have him build confidence in knowing where I'm supposed to be," Thomas said. "And I told him, 'My bad' about certain things. It's something I have to keep working on in practice to try to get better.Kelly just blamed his coaches at Oklahoma.*
"I have to get my timing down. I missed some time and my timing is not as efficient as Santana's [top receiver Santana Moss] and everybody else's. So I'm trying to get my timing down with the quarterbacks."
I suppose it would be nice if either player won a job coming out of training camp, but it's hardly atypical for a rookie wideout to struggle. Unfortunately, the 'Skins' offense is as hapless as ever, and they don't have the luxury of waiting around for guys to mature into roles. Which is why Snyder is working feverishly to put the finishing touches on that time machine.

man, doesn't inspire much confidence does it? maybe these guys will gel at the write time. i really hope this is the case. i like the way jc #17 is bringing these concerns to the attention of our newest young wide outs, i just hope they have what it takes to rise to the level worthy of playing well in the leauge.(and produce for the home team) jc is showing signs of leadership and atleast we have that,if not much confidence right now, right?
what the hell, go skins!!!!!!!!! i love this franchise no matter what.
jason cambell needs someone to take the pressure off him. the skins won't go anywhere with that dumbass,,as the quarterback.....hell they should of kept patrick ramsey instead of that piece of garbage,,,,,,,he is a loser------get rid of him dan.
^ ^ you're an idiot ^ ^
patrick ramsey? please. JC's got more talent in his pinkey than Ramsey has. if he can be protected he's gonna ball this year.
Jason has plenty of talent. Patrick Ramsey???? What the hell are you talking about? JC is 100 times better than him. He doesn't move like Vick or Young, but his smarts and knowing the offense a little better should help him alot. Maybe the offensive Tackles should block better. Samuels got manhandled by J. Peppers in the pre-season who ways much less than him. I think Heyer will do fine at RT this season. Jansen coming off the sides with fresh legs would be great too. We all respect what he's done here. Go Skins Go! I think our team is great.
A first round quarterback with a big arm that never really panned out? Sounds alot like Patrick Ramsey or Jason Campbell. It's scary when Campbell says his idol is Doug Williams. Besides the fact he never saw him play, Williams was 7-9 as a Redskin and Cambell I believe is 8-12. It's amazing how the Redskins offense caught fire in the middle of the 2nd quarter against the Bears last year. Is that when the sean taylor emotion kicked in? or maybe thats when the Patrick Ramsey clone left the game.
Any idiot who has any understanding of football can see that having to re learn your fourth or fifth offense in the four or five years you've been in the league would maybe account for JC's lack of production at this point in his career. I mean seriously, you put any quarterback in his situation and you'll get the same results. Add to the fact that so far, this offensive line has been terrible, I'm mean, if you put Tom Brady behind our line right now, it would resemble the Super Bowl or worse for him. If its anybodys fault its Dan Snyder for allowing this to go on as it has.
Wow, what rhetoric about different offenses! Roethlisberger didn't seem to struggle with his new offense as a rookie. Brady looked pretty good his 2nd year. Garcia excels wherever he goes. Didn't Brad Johnson win a superbowl in a new offense? Hey Theismann won in a new offense. Marino enjoyed his new offense. Don't blame the offensive line they aren't holding onto the ball on a 3 step drop. Campmbell has hesistated ever since college. When he does complete a pass, its so late the defender has already closed on the reciever not allowing for YAC or an interception like last week.
