Man, Andre Woodson has had a tough go of it, dating back to the Senior Bowl when his draft stock commenced downward spiral. At one time thought to be a first-round pick, the former Kentucky star fell to the Giants in the sixth round, proceeded to struggle mightily during the preseason, and now finds himself released.
According to the Star-Ledger Giants blog, Woodson and backup Anthony Wright didn't make the final cut, which means that ... wait, what? David Carr is the only other quarterback on the roster after Eli Manning? Really? Wow, that's a lot of faith in the Giants offensive line and Elisha's ability to take a hit.
In any event, New York will probably try to sneak Woodson onto the practice squad, which should be pretty easy given the glut of mediocre quarterbacks currently flooding the market.
In other Giants personnel news, both R.W. McQuarters and Sam Madison made the roster despite speculation that one or both of the cornerbacks might be on the wrong side of the final 53 today. Sinorice Moss, the team's 2006 second-round pick, also avoided the Turk, which probably had a lot to do with New York releasing Brandon London.
But seriously, Mr. Mittens?

I was also surprised they kept both old corners. We're comfortable with Carr as backup. After all, we've been one hit away from sending in the battleship for a couple of years now.
I know it's nostalgic but I'm hoping Reese grabs Simms. It would make for a nice story and he might be good enough to work himself up to #2. I'd like to be in Giants Stadium to hear the crowd the first time Simms ran out to the huddle.

When was "the battleship" cut? I must have been out of touch the week it happened. I always thought it odd that the Giants (or anybody) would draft 2 consecutive QB's from Kentucky. Lorenzen always seemed more of a tight end fit for the pros, but I can't say I've ever seen him catch a pass.
Ah. Simms. Phil has always been one of my favorites. Another Kentucky boy ( Morehead ) & maybe that explains the Giants obsession with QB's from somewhere in the Bluegrass state. Looking for a reincarnation of Phil. Won't find many of those anywhere. Chris is a good QB but alas, he is not his dad.

I guess Eli and Peyton's coach, now Ky's QB don't know anything when he said that Andre was one of the best QB's he has ever coached. Sanders said Woodson was very teachable , eager to learn and his career stats prove it. He played in the SEC, beat the defending LSU tigers, has the NCAA record for consecutive attempts without an interception, around 320. In the senior bowl, you play a west coast offense in 4 days with guys you don't even know with an o-line that didn't protect you, and see how well you do. Brohm's 3rd string and he had help from a slew of family members to get him ready. Andre said it was a complicated playbook, he got very little snaps being the 4th qb in rotation and they think he can't play, they are full of ****. They said they wanted him to groom him. They cut everybody when Lorenzen got cut because they knew they could call him up and he knows the system. Crapping Giants, rookies should get paid after they show their worth not after they sit on the bench earning millions while we the fans pay for high ticket prices. Look at Brady Quinn, and now Brohm, and everybody else who got the money without showing us a darn thing. Scouters are stupid. Scouters should be former players, not business men.

i like the giants but you're an awfully arrogant team if you deliberately make Carr your #2 over other living, breathing mammals. Don't wish injury on Eli, I love Eli, but should Eli do something like just walk off for a few weeks, I hope Carr plays and I hope the Giants regret this. It wasn't fair to us when Delhomme got hurt and we had to witness Carr's "play", but we were hoping the entire league would have learned from our mistake. Apparently not
