It's hard to remember now, but there was a time when Drew Henson was considered America's best young athlete. When he was 19 years old, people thought the only thing that would stop him from becoming a Hall of Fame quarterback in the NFL was that he was first going to be a Hall of Fame third baseman for the Yankees. As it turned out, he quit baseball because he just plain wasn't good enough, and then he tried and failed to catch on in football, washing out with the Texans and Cowboys. He hasn't played anywhere since the Vikings cut him during last year's training camp.
But now he's got a chance, having signed with the Detroit Lions. This is probably just a short-term fix for Detroit, and there's a good chance that he'll be cut as soon as the injured Drew Stanton is healthy again. But while I don't think the guy who once shared snaps with Tom Brady at Michigan is ever going to be an NFL starter, I am glad to see him in the league again. He's only 28, and that's too young for a guy to give up on his dreams.

Maybe we finally have a QB with some experience, even though he may be close to retirement. Hopefully Marinelli will give him a chance rather than just giving him a paycheck.

I have faith in this guy. He had shown in college that he had the skills. Of course the pressure will be on him, and he could work in to be a positive for Detroit in case someone gets hurt. Detroit, historically, has shown to be injury prone, for whatever reason and not relient enough to bounce back once the injuries start piling up. I think its a good idea to try to give a "hometown" guy another shot especially at his age. He knows this is probably his last shor and it may prove to be one of the best acquisitions Detroit Lions have ever "chanced" on in a long time. I just hope our media and fans support him as they did at Michigan.
