You know, this wouldn't even be an issue if the NFL didn't have a regular season. If the league's best team was determined based on record and overall awesomeness, the Cowboys would be world champs. Annually.
Unfortunately, that's not how it works, so every time the Cowboys make it to the playoffs -- and lose -- the team and its fans have to hear about it. And with all the preseason hype surrounding Dallas, other clubs -- like, say, the defending Super Bowl champs and NFC East rival Giants -- take umbrage at all the undeserved recognition (at least as they perceive it).
Last month, Giants defensive end Justin Tuck reminded us all that you can't buy a Super Bowl (looking in your direction, Jerry Jones), and earlier this week, his teammate Brandon Jacobs, had some more thoughts on the matter. From ESPN's NFC East blogger Matt Mosley:
Since arriving at Giants training camp, I've been told that several members of the organization plan their Wednesday evenings around watching HBO's "Hard Knocks" in an effort to find more bulletin board material.Mosley wonders if the Giants caught the part about where Cowboys' coach Wade Phillips refers to them as "last year's champs" -- I'm guessing no since there have been no reports of New York players' heads blowing up.
Apparently Jacobs has already seen enough because he went off on the Cowboys while appearing on WFAN's mid-day show earlier this week. After calling the Cowboys an "arrogant group," Jacobs followed with this:
"I guess they won their Super Bowl rings in training camp, because they didn't win it last year," he said.
At the end of the day, none of this really matters -- I can't imagine it provides any extra motivation when the two teams face off -- but it's always fun to hear grown men act like teenage girls. If there's anything the NFL needs more of, it's that.

I am a huge Giant fan and I think the fact that wade phillips says they are last years champs is the way the Giants and Coach coughlin are thinking anyway. If they look at themselves as the champs it takes away there hunger and gives them an ego....and the Giants unlike the cowboys do not have a team ego. Let everyone think the Cowboys are the best. It is all about Late January/early February........I do not think Troy aikman, Michael Irvin, or Emmit smith are coming out of retirement...........................Go G-men.

Dallas with all their arrogance brings on any and every negative comment about them.
When they lose all they do is CRY about people pointing out that they lost. Oh and all the refs bad calls. What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!
But when they win their arrogance kicks into high gear and al you hear is how good they are................................if only they didn't get cheated!
The best thing that could happen to the NFL is for Dallas to go away. The entire organization is a disgrace to the quality of the NFL.
CryBOY losers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man stop being a bunch of haters. The Cowboys can't control the media, ESPN is the one that hype's them up. I don't think anyone blamed the refs for the playoff losses the last two years. And as for the Cowboys being a disgrace to the league...when was the last time you heard about one of them being arrested or accused of using PEDs? Both Pacman and Tank Johnson got into trouble before they were 'Boys, but since we signed them they've been just fine. That's a lot more than you can say about other teams in the league.

Wade may not be a hall of fame coach but he is a decent guy. There was nothing wrong with his comment. The Cowboys are doing what they are supposed to do. Relegate their failures to the past and concentrate on this year.

His failure as a desent coach last season was when he didn't give the Giants any credit for winning that playoff game in Dallas. His exact words after the game were "The better team lost". A desent coach would be graceful even when loosing.

Sure daniel...............your post is exactly what I said
ONLY Dallas can do it right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
What about other teams that don't controversial players from the time they are signed on? Oh I get it. Dallas influenced them
You support a CryBaby organization that I still say is a total disgrace to the NFL organization with their we are always beat up on attitude
They suck, and when the lose it's because they were beat by their opponent.............not the refs.
And when you win you do not immediately become the best and only team there ever was.
You weren't any good in the 70's were 0kay in the 80's and have sucked ever sense.

The Cowboys won 2 Superbowls in the '70s and 3 in the '90s and you say they've sucked since the '80s? Oh well, at least you got your screen name correct. You are truly absurd.

The cowboys--hate em or love em--have been one of the better football franchises in NFL history. you can't argue with success and class. I prefer the cowboys under Tom Landry. now THAT was a class act. However, they continue to be successful and they are a class act today and they are the most recognized football team in the NFL. Those are the facts--not media hype or anything else. It was the media--not the Cowboys that labeled them America's team. I prefer to think of them as my Texas team. That is where they are from and thats where they play.

stars and stripes...we are certainly not jealous of your Cowgirls, (when you are reigning Super Bowl Champs, there is no reason to be jealous). What gets under the skin of a lot of people is how they are always anointed as champs before they start the season. You are right though that it is the media, not the girls themselves saying these things. They are certainly a very successful franchise, but to call guys like Jerry Jones classy??? Are you kidding me? Not to mention your head coach, Forrest Gump who showed zero class in defeat.

wade phillips is a proven loser....its going 2 be fun watching that team implode....but, its not all phillips' fault, their biggest problem is a guy they cant cut, trade, or force in2 retirement....as long as jerry "the moron" jones is running that team, your not going anywhere....the only reason they are as good as they are now is cuz "the moron" admitted he didnt know what he was doin, n let sum1 who does (parcells) choose which players 2 go with....didnt take "the moron" long 2 bring in T.O. n parcells said "fuk it"....guess whos callin th personell shots now....ahahahahaha

I am a die hard Cowboy fan who agrees with the Giants on this one.
They are the champs and nobody is respecting that. They are the team to beat. That's why they play the Superbowl. When Dallas won their Superbowls in the nineties, they were victims of the same treatment (49ers, Packers, were said to be better teams). Enjoy your time G-Fans because it is well deserved...

hi Butta xl, YOU MAY THINK THAT ALL FANS HATE THE COWBOYS, BUT THE TRUE FAN LOVES THE COWBOYS BECAUSE THEY ARE A GREAT TEAM AND BEAT MY GIANTS TWICE. BUT LIKE THE GIANTS IN 1990 HAD TO BEAT THE REDSKINS 3 TIME, WITH GIBBS AS COACH, AND THEY DID TO GO AND WIN SUPERBOWL, WADE PHILLIPS COULD'NT, AND A MUCH BETTER TEAM THE PATRIOTS 18-0 WE DEFEATED.
AT 73 I HAVE SEEN GREAT FOOTBALL AND HAD SEASON TICKETS TO THE DOLPHIN 16-0 PERFECT SEASON IN MIAMI.
EVEN IF THE PATRIOTS WOULD HAVE WON THEY WOULDN'T HAVE SURPASSED THE FISH BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T LOOSE THEIR QB, LIKE THE FISH DID WITH GREESE GOING DOWN AND EARL MORREL OF MICHIGAN STATE PLAYING SOME 13 GAMES TO PERFECTION.
KEEP KILLING THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS WE LOVE IT

I think I'll bookmark this page and then cut and paste the remarks when the playoffs are over. That was so much fun to do after the Patriots lost the big one.
Lets be gracious kids, your words probably WILL come back to bite you on the behind.
