Being a football fan in New Jersey with no allegiances to the locals has been an interesting experience in the last couple of weeks, to say the least. As Favremania has gripped the region, there haven't been a lot of rational thinkers out there -- just a lot of hysteria. I couldn't get away from it. I sought refuge at last weekend's All Points West festival, where I figured the hipsters, hippies, and Radiohead fanatics would reject any semblance of professional sport. But, no, there was this.Through it all, I've seen nothing but bad ahead for Brett Favre and the Jets. The opinion is probably more prevalent across the nation, but in my little vacuum this is the best thing to happen to the area since The Beatles played Shea, or, you know, The Sopranos. I've been a lonely voice in my homestate.
But Joe Theismann and former Giant quarterback Jeff Hostetler have my back. Both cite the location more than the decision itself as a mistake. Theismann thinks that New York is simply a "void-filler" for Favre, and that his lack of desire to play there will ruin him. Hostetler thinks that the prickish fanbase will turn on him and render him paralyzed from culture shock (my words, not his).
Both men (surprisingly, in Theismann's case) make excellent points, and they're well worth considering for any Jets fan who has conveniently forgotten the phrase "buyer beware." Hate to ruin the puppy dog parade, Jets fans, but it's better to be prepared than smacked by reality.

I REALLY BELIEVE THAT ONCE THE NEW YORK FANS AND MEDIA SEE THE MISTAKE THAT THE JETS MADE IN BRINGING IN FAVRE, IT WILL TOTALLY DESTROY HIS LEGACY.

Well Jean you forgot one thing about Brett Favre- he is the No. 1 QB in the NFL and if that means he sucks so be it. What a nice accomplishment since it will take another 5 years for anyone to break his records. I don't know what team you root for but stay there. Good luck and choose another sport. GO PACK GO!!!

Favre will create excitement. He is definitely above average quarterback but he's also a leader. Compared to Chad Pennington he's going to add excitement to the team. Favre "loves" football and will give it 100% wherever he plays. The Jets may or may not make the playoffs but it will be very exciting. I'm a Charger's fan and every time Doug Flutie stepped on the field, who was nowhere the same caliber as Favre, it rallied the crowd. We loved Flutie even when he wasn't doing as well. Favre is a legend and will benefit NY. Go Jets!!!!

What, a voice of reason and sanity?? And I agree, from Theismann?
We'll see, but I picture Favre circa 2005 and 2006; not Favre 2007. But that is me, pragmatist and off BFavre wagon since playoffs 2001.

Remember, Theismann's career ended with the broken leg. He says he has never watched the video of the break. Theismann is probably envisioning Farve with a broken leg. Hostetler's career with the Giants automatically disqualifies him.
Farve will inject some enthusiasm into the Jets. They need it. It's worth it all for Farve and the Jets.

It was a good move for the Jets, and history will be the judge whether or not it was a good move for Brett. Being 38, less mobile, I'm not sure I would want to be behind the Jets offensive line. They've made some moves to strengthen it, but it remains to be scene how much it has improved over last year. Lots of Pennington's problems at QB over the last few years was the crappy line he was playing behind. I'd totally hate for Brett to become like Michael Jordan playing for the Wizards... or to sustain and injury like Joe Theismann.
