With the circus surrounding the Packers right now, one can't help but think things could have been done better and could be done better moving forward. As a Bears fan, I obviously wouldn't mind a ton of negativity bogging down camp up in Wisconsin ... but I'm separating that fact here just for a little "If I was running the Packers."The entire camp is a distraction and only one thing can be done to rid the team of distraction before the start of the season.
Trade Aaron Rodgers. Why? There are a ton of reasons, but here are the best five:
1. It gives Brett Favre this season and possibly even next as the incumbent and unquestioned starter should he decide to continue playing even longer.
2. You avoid the PR disaster that trading Favre would create after all the fan-fare he's received the past few days in Green Bay since arriving via chartered jet. Seriously, how can they even think about trading Favre with the way the fan-base has reacted to him? That would send the most chilling "we don't give a crap about you" we've ever seen from ownership to the fans. This move along with the signing of Ryan Grant would give the team about a month to get away from all the sideshows and concentrate on football.
3. The three quarterbacks for this season would still be in place. Brian Brohm is set to be groomed as the backup and heir apparent to Favre, while Matt Flynn is the perfect third-stringer at this point in time with is winning pedigree and scrappy attitude. You could even argue he's being groomed to serve as Brohm's backup for down the road.
4. The Packers were really, really close to winning the Super Bowl last year. Losing in the final seconds to the eventual champ at home on the NFC Title game with a young nucleus almost entirely intact means they should be in the mix again. You'd rather go into said mix with the experienced Favre at the most important position on the field instead of a man who has never started an NFL game.
5. Finally, you'd be doing the noble thing for Rodgers ... assuming he went somewhere to be the starter. If Favre plays two more seasons that would be five on the bench for a first-round draft pick without ever getting to prove or disprove his abilities on the big stage. That's not right for him, and that's a waste of resources for the Packers. Rodgers is a better option for several teams -- Bears, Vikings, Jets, Dolphins, etc. -- compared to what they currently have. While he hasn't even started a game, he did finish one quite well last year against the Cowboys. He ended that game 20-28 for 218 yards and a TD without turning it over (hear that, Bears fans?). That's a 106 rating against a quality defense.
While tons of media have spent time discussing whether or not Favre has earned the right to waffle, one thing is for sure ... Rodgers has paid his dues for three years and has earned the right to a chance.
Let him have it somewhere else.

Trade Rogers. He can start somewhere else. Brett belongs to the Packers. And they can trade Thompson right along with him. MArk Murphy is no Packer fan. He should have done the right thing right off the bat....Welcome back Brett! No questions asked. Brett is the guy people want to see quarterbacking the Packers. Not Rodgers. Let Rodgers play for someone else.

I was just thinking about this last night, I think the Bears could really benefit from acquiring Aaron Rodgers. I'd be willing to trade a first rounder and fillers.

I do not live in Wisconsin, but I am from Mississippi and I have been a Green Bay fan all my life as my father and grandmother who was from Green Bay. I know that Favre is now and was always devoted to the Packers. I hate all the media spin and comments... because this thing is a lot more simple than what they the media and green bay front office make it out to be. I mean here is a guy that really turned everything around for the Packers and they just would rather him go away. Lets get one thing straight if Favre plays for another team this year it is because the Packers traded him not because he wanted to play somewhere else.
16 years and 253 (275 including playoffs) straight starts for a team...
Imagine working for a company for 16 years and they treat you like they have treated him...
Shame on you Green Bay...
Shame on you Mike McCarthy...
Shame on you Ted Thompson...
What really sums it up is a sign I saw a lady holding up at practice the other day...
Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson
For 20 million will you go away!!!

Perhaps the biggest mistake made in Green Bay was allowing Ted Thompson into the Sunday night meeting between Brett Favre and Mike McCarthy...Ted Thompson should be paid a couple of million to get him out of Green Bay. He has been behind all of the Packer Hoopla and, if the fans had it their way, he would be gone!!! As a Packer fan since the late 1950's, they now have one of their best changes to get into the play-offs and Superbowl this year. They can not do it with Aaron Rodger. What a shame they won't let Brett quarterback. Shame on Ted Thompson!!!

I too thought about trading Rodgers last night!!!
Guess brilliant minds think alike!!
Brett is THE MAN and ALWAYS WILL BE!!
Super Bowl here WE COME!!!
Brett's ONLY mistake was retiring in the first place..
We all deserve a second chance..If you listened to his
interview with Gretta, kinda sounded to me like "they"
almost forced him to do it..He is strong willed and
strong handed...He WILL lead us (The Pack) to
"The Big One"!! While they trade Rodgers, send
Thompson & Murphy with him!

This is a moronic post. First off, check your facts, Rodgers has played 3 years so far, so if Favre plays two more, that would make FIVE years Rodgers rode the pine. Apparently math isn't taught at Blogger school.
Secondly, you're trading a first round talent who could be your starter for the next two years to get an aging quarterback who has one, maybe two years of questionable heart left? Let's count the reasons that it makes NO sense
1) Given the way Brett has waffled for years, would it surprise anyone to see him quit halfway through this season?
2) Brett hasn't been in the OTA's, minicamps, or training camp thus far. Meaning any changes that the coaches have made to the offense thus far are wasted and must be abandoned or re-taught
3) Brett, by QB standards, is ooolllldddd. He's one Jared Allen blindside sack away from calling it a career (again). Yes, I get he's Mr. Durable. But that won't last forever. Even Cal Ripken Jr. hit the trainer's bench eventually.
4) You're assuming the other 52 men on the roster will welcome him back with open arms. Yes they're pros, but they're also human, and I guarantee you a lot of that team does not appreciate his me-first attitude towards the franchise over the last month. Is it really worth it to make the fans happy if it costs you your locker room unity?
5) Lastly, and most importantly: Yes, Brett had a great year last year. And he was flat-out below average for two or three years before that. Are you willing to gamble the franchise that last year's Pro Bowl numbers weren't a fluke and that the "Real" Brett Favre, the one who never saw a risky pass he didn't like, won't show back up on Week 1?
Please, please, please, no one ever bring this asinine idea back up again.

Hm, which "two to three bad years" are you referring to?
Im guessing the one bad year, where the team literally had three rbs go down, so everyone knew what was coming, plus it was a transition year, even Elway endured these types of seasons to wait for the talent to arrive and develop.
As for Jared Allen blindside sacks killing him, uh...hes started nearly 250 straight games. Im sure that tiny fact eluded you.
You are aware that most of Rodgers sterling career up to date has consisted of one half of a game against the Cowboys, who by then had put the game so far out of reach, that they were playing second stringers, so him looking totally pwn rad awesome is a bit of an understatement.
As stated earlier too, this mook has managed to wind up done for one year, and severely hurt another, all while not even starting ONE game.
This is also a guy who came from the same school Kyle Boller did, and look how wonderful that fellow first rounder has been.
Favre hasnt attended otas or minicamps for years, in case you didnt know.
And to close....Rodgers threw an interception in training camp.
TRAINING CAMP.
The very day Favre was there, lol.

Yeah, I know Rodgers has played three years. I said that in the last sentence.
As for saying "six years," I made a mistake. You can believe I can't add 3+2 if you want. I have no idea how I made that typo, but I did. It's nitpicking to go after that, however.
As for the rest of your post. There's definite credence to most of it ... but none of it qualifies the entire idea of trading Rodgers as "moronic." He's an unknown quantity. People thought Ryan Leaf was going to be a stud.

ITS ABOUT TIME SOME ONE HAS COME OUT AND SAID WHAT WE PACKER FANS HAVE BEEN THINKING. TRADE ROGERS AND MOVE ON. THE KNUCKLEHEAD COACH AND GM FEEL THE NEED TO PUT THEIR STAMP ON THIS TEAM, THE ONLY THING THEY ARE DOING IS PUTTING THE STAMP ON THEIR PINK SLIPS. THERE WILL BE MORE INTEREST AND REWARD IN TRADING ROGERS, AND A REPLACEMENT IS A DRAFT AWAY. LETS FACE IT YOU JUST DON'T GET LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE TWO FAVRES IN ONE LIFETIME. THIS COACH NEEDS TO SEE THE LIGHT AND BRETTS THE ONE WHO IS HOLDING IT. McCARTHY WILL BE SINGING A DIFFERENT TUNE AFTER 9/8/08.

this would never work. why? because rodgers trade value is insanely low. they would get nothing for him. another benefit of keeping rodgers is that his salary is pretty low for a starter.
also, if they do trade rodgers, what happens to the pack if favre retires after this season or the next? brohm will not be nearly as ready as rodgers is to lead the team. the timing of rodgers' maturity coincides with the maturity of the rest of the youth on this team. brohm is not the man. the pack's time for making runs at the superbowl is a small gap. it won't be there in another 4 to 5 years. putting faith in favre staying in green bay during that time, and faith in brohm being a quality starting qb in that timespan... well, it's too risky. they NEED to stick with their plans for rodgers to be the starter.
at least by trading favre, the pack could get good value for him.
remember, the nfl is a business first.

It's a good thought for strategy. rogers would be worth more than Favre in a trade i believe...
1. No one wants to give up a 1st rounder for a guy who might play for them 1 year (unless you're the vikes)
2. Rogers has quality value due to his age, draft pick, expectations and having to sit and learn from Favre for the past 3 years.
Teams would give up more for Rogers than for Favre, at least most. The others that would give up more for Favre are out of their mind, unless it pays off by them winning the SB.
tipcpup01 is a prime example of a jag-off. I'm sure he's never made a type-O before.
Will this likely happen? NEVER! Is this thinking outside the box? Yes....
