According to the Minneapolis Star Tribute (via PFT), Brett Favre could be a Minnesota Viking by the end of the week.
FanHouse and PFT blogger MDS told you last night that the NFL reinstated Favre and that it has been said that he can compete for the Packers starting job. Of course, this is a 180 from what the team has been saying since this whole thing began.
Then again, dealing him to the Vikings is a 180 from what they've been saying, too.
The team has been saying that Aaron Rodgers in their starter and that reinserting Favre in would make all this prep work and offensive adjustments a giant waste of time. It also could cause Rodgers to demand out of Green Bay.
An executive in personnel for an NFL team with close ties to clubs in the NFC North Division told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the Packers called the Vikings on Friday informing them that Favre was available.
"They've kind of said through one of their (front-office) guys that if Favre did report they would potentially trade him within the division," the executive said late Sunday afternoon.
The source said the conversation between officials from the two bitter rivals was brief. There was no discussion about possible compensation.
If this is true, than it must happen quickly. If Favre stays in camp for a while with this rumor is still floating around, it would be a bigger circus than it already is. I mean, why bring in Favre and show him the wrinkles of the new offense when you are going to deal him to a division rival?
If Green Bay really is welcoming Favre back and offering him a shot at displacing Rodgers, they need to go ahead and squash this rumor. The Vikings, according to the article, don't believe that the Packers will deal him.
By the way, the Packers don't have a practice scheduled tomorrow (despite Favre's report time of noon).

..............as I said before.............if the packer's want to save face and not look like the Taliban 'al Qaeda' of the NFL by holding Brett Favre 'Hostage' and not make their packer player's look like 'scared women' with training bras, then release or trade Brett so that he can play for the Vikings. Murphy believes Favre walks on water! Mr. Murphy, can you imagine how your packer players feel about how scared you are about losing to the vikings because of Brett?? If I were one of the Packer players, I would have the entire packer team go on strike for your lack of confidence in you own team for crying out loud! What a Joke............Show some balls and release Brett so he can play for the Vikings.........Don't act like a 'Taliban' leader......Save face and show the NFL fans world wide that you are not 'scared' of one human being that you feel will ruin or BEAT your team...........

If the Packers are prepared to move on without Bret because they think Rogers is worth playing now then why not trade Favre to the team that offers the most. If that is the Vikings, so be it.
In all the excitement about his last year's performance have people forgotten how badly he has played three of the last four years? A lot of his success throwing the ball lately has been due to the YAC by hard nosed receivers who just won't go down.
I'm being careful here not to denegrate him because he truly was a terrific player, but the truth is that in a lot of offensive schemes he wouldn't fit in.
If Favre does go to the Vikings you can bet their two games will be national televised.

Well Giant fan, you may have won the Super Bowl but your football acumen leaves a lot to be desired. In 2005, when the Packers went 4-12 there were 11 starters out with injuries. They even had to get a running back off the streets named Gado to compete. Brett's only recourse was to keep throwing to noname receivers as well as tight ends and backs. In 2006 some improvement was made in drafts and healthy players returning. They then went 8-8 and missed the playoffs by a tie breaker which went to the Giants. Through all of this Brett never used injuries or lack of talent as an excuse. He even made a statement in 2006 that the team was loaded with talent which everyone thought was crazy. In 2007 Brett showed his skills by not only breaking all records as the No. 1 QB but was awarded another MVP. So enjoy your Super Bowl win and follow up on the Giants progress because you know nothing about Brett and the Packers.

PS: Just discussing a business decision. Not that i want to side on either Favre's or TT's position in the recent skirmish. The news was so great one of India's premier news channel had a 2 min report last week (FYI - India has no idea of American Football and the only American football trivia known locally is that SUPER BOWL is the name of the final match of the american football season)
I have a better suggestion for the Packers than Vikings. Trade him to Chicago.
In Chicago, Packers have no offense of any significance (save Hester!), the O-line is average+ and he has no tools. Moreover, he plays in the windy soldier field. So, he is going to have a not-so-great time. Trade him to the Bears for a conditional fourth turning to third. He will not be a threat to you anymore
In MN, he is going to give you a thousand nightmares! You are sending him to team that is a good QB away from serious playoff contender. He will trouble you when you go to Metrodome and the packer fans will give him a hero's welcome when he comes to Lambeau Field. With AP, a strong O-line, the lack of big playmakers in WRs doesn't look so bad. If you still want to go ahead and take the risk - it shouldn't anything less than a 2nd rounder (turning to first, if Favre goes to Pro-Bowl, even as alternate)
If you are serious about trading him, avoid looking at MN and look to the Bears.

As a Packer fan, I wish Brett would have kept his word. Now the packers need to dump him. Brett seems pathological. I still love the Packers but can't respect the liar" Favre". Hasta luago, Brett. Sorry Spanish isn't my 1st language.

If the Vikings don't have any more sense than to pin all of their hopes on Tavaris Jackson, then that's all they deserve.A few of their fans are so pathetic, that they will say and do anything to get Favre released and placed on their team.Just look at post#1 as an example.I hope the Packers let Favre rot on the bench until his crybaby ego can't take it anymore. This fiasco is sickening.

Dick,
If what you said is true about the team Bret led, then they should have traded him in 2005 since nothing he could have done would have made them winners.
Truth is, he stunk up the field with wild throws and bad decisions. How much of his poor performance was caused by the team is debateable. A case could be made that last year was the abberation. He has been living off his Super Bowl win now for many years.
I like Favre. He played hard and he got it done. But if I'm an owner I'm not betting much that he can do it again. He has screwed his team, pure and simple. Even the greatest cowboy has to ride of into the sunset someday. This ought to be Bret's day.

This whole situation is one huge mess. If you just look at the facts and his numbers (esp. from last year), Favre should be the starter. It's obvious he can still play. However, I don't think he will get a fair chance to win the job, especially with Thompson and his ego running the show. If Favre isn't the starter then we all know something is wrong and the competition wasn’t completely open. If you believe Favre should be the starter check out this campaign to tell Thompson how we feel. http://www.thepoint.com/campaigns/bring-back-brett-favre
