Brett Favre Considers Accepting $20 Million Marketing Deal, Staying Retired

Yesterday we noted that the Green Bay Packers had offered Brett Favre $20 million not to play, and today there are signs that Favre may be prepared to accept.

Citing an unnamed league source, Newsday reports that Favre is seriously considering taking the offer that team president Mark Murphy made when he visited Favre in Mississippi on Wednesday.

Technically, the deal wouldn't be, "We'll give you $20 million and you stay away." It would be couched as a marketing deal with the team, wherein Favre would sign a contract to appear at team events and lend his name to team functions and whatnot, and in exchange he'd get $2 million a year for 10 years. But the truth is, it's more like a bribe to get Favre to stop bothering the team and go away quietly, and it sounds like there's a chance Favre might accept.
