Yesterday we noted that the Green Bay Packers had offered Brett Favre $20 million not to play, and today there are signs that Favre may be prepared to accept.Citing an unnamed league source, Newsday reports that Favre is seriously considering taking the offer that team president Mark Murphy made when he visited Favre in Mississippi on Wednesday.
Technically, the deal wouldn't be, "We'll give you $20 million and you stay away." It would be couched as a marketing deal with the team, wherein Favre would sign a contract to appear at team events and lend his name to team functions and whatnot, and in exchange he'd get $2 million a year for 10 years. But the truth is, it's more like a bribe to get Favre to stop bothering the team and go away quietly, and it sounds like there's a chance Favre might accept.

By paying Favre as a "consultant" or whatever, should Rodgers go down with an injury, Favre can then "unretire" and come in as the starting quarterback. This way Favre is a back-up QB without standing on the sidelines with a clipboard, and Green Bay has an extra roster position. .

Why would Brett consider taking $2 million a year for 10 years when he will get $12 million this year by sitting on the bench. In addition he gets $14 million next year and $13 million after that which will complete his contract obligations. They don't need him as a consultant. The stadium is sold out every year and they are now earning in excess of $25 million in revenue since the stadium has been renovated. The organization is just trying to get rid of him and save face. If Brett wants to continue playing football, he should stick to his guns and reject a ridiculous offer.

You got the guy that clicked so well with these recievers and they're toying with that. How childish. I wouldn't changed my watch no matter what if it kept on ticking and the timing was right on. I'd rather play too Brett, but let them sit. It's insulting. Do some fishing and enjoy your family. I wish I could of. Don't be treated like this. The thing is, the fans are going to suffer. Thanks for the good times Brett. I wish Ron and Bob would step in and knock this stuff off. Then again, Thompson will hang himself. Enjoy your time off with benefits!

Wanting to play is one thing. Using this as leverage to get money is another. I'd lose so much respect for Farve if he choose the latter.

Give me a freakin break. This situation is out of control. There is only one QB that will maximize what the Pack can possibly acheive this year and that is Brett Farve! Sorry Aarron but sitting on the bench and waiting for Brett to get injured (and it will happen) or make a definitive decision to hang it up is not the worst position to be in in! ,the Pack needs to do what is best for their chances to get to and win the Super Bowl! What else counts?

Martin is absolutely right. You people don't realize... through all this... all Brett has wanted is to play and only in Green Bay... he does not want the money or to play anywhere else... this would allow the Packers to save face and give Brett some chance.. without intimidating Rodgers. People should see this whole thing for what it really is... a guy who wants back in to his home team. All the stuff about being released or being traded was just to make the Packers wake up and realize that he had/has value.

I have been a packer fan all of my life and I live in NY. I am so sick over what the GB Packer organization has done that Vince Lombardi must be turning in his grave. Ted Thompson is an a....hole. He has been a problem for Farve since day one. Control freak. This whole situation is a no-brainer. We all know that Farve is the better quarterback. The hardest thing to believe is that they wont even let him compete for his job. I am disgusted and I truly loved the packers and what they stood for, but I do not feel that way anymore. And If Farve takes that money, I will have no respect for him. I say go to camp....show what this game, and team means to you and make a fool of the GB organization. But, I think Brett is too nice of a guy to do that to his teamates. IF this so called deal has a clause that says he can play if A Rodgers gets hurt etc., and that after a year he is a freebird then maybe as a last resort, but that is a big maybe. I am just sick of it all and all you packer fans from GB should be supporting him...that is another disappointment...Have we forgotten what this man has done for the team and community. Very Sad.

Say it ain't so Brett. and here I thought this was all about you wanting to still play. You are playing.....you are playing all of us. This seems now to be all about the $. Sounds like one of these many wide receivers who want to hold out for more dough. And I thought you were different . I'm a fool I admit it.
