Denver Broncos safety John Lynch, who has played 15 NFL seasons and been selected for nine Pro Bowls, is leaving the Broncos. He might also be leaving the NFL.Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that Lynch said he made the decision to leave Denver after talking it over with his coach:
"I met with Mike (Shanahan), and we both knew it wasn't really working," Lynch said. "To coach's credit, he understood it and is allowing me to seek other opportunities. Just in my gut, it didn't feel right anymore, but Mike couldn't have been any better about it. ...
"Coach was appreciative that I played here and made four Pro Bowls for him and was captain of the team, but in the end, I couldn't do what I hoped to deliver, which was help bring Denver a championship. And I regret that."
Lynch said he'll play in 2008 if he finds the "perfect situation," but if he doesn't he'll retire. Glazer says Lynch is headed for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and although I think that might be a stretch, he's had a great career, and if he is retired, the NFL just lost one of its good guys.

MDS....you think it is a stretch for Lynch to be inducted into the Hall of Fame? Did I watch the same career you did?
To me he is right up there with the best that ever played. He made a huge number of game changing plays over his career and his leadership and hard play are legendary.

John Lynch ummm if I was you and you want an great chance to win a superbowl me personally will go to the Patriots if they had you last year in the superbowl that catch most likely would not have happened and you would have been on a 19-0 team and won another superbowl I hope you stay another year in the NFL good luck stay healthy and also the Bucs may also need a Safety /DB the Patriot's just lost a whole bunch of them and could use your help espically the type of player you are good luck what ever you decide if you chose the Buc's I get to watch you again
but the G-Men won a great game and they deserved it !!!!!

How can no one have said this yet - Saints are PERFECT fit. He could add the bunch of added players to a overhauled defense. They need help at safety and he would definetly be a starter. Get signed John so you can go ahead and get in camp with us. Please make it happen Loomis!!!!!

It's actually not much of a stretch to consider John Lynch as a potential HoF-er. Compare "1st team all pro/pro bowl/all decade team" numbers for him and others not in yet:
John Lynch 3/9/too early to know (TETK)
Champ Bailey 3/6/TETK
Rod Woodson 6/11/90s
Deion Sanders 7/8/90s
Aeneas Williams 4/8/90s
Steve Atwater 2/8/90s
Joey Browner 3/6/80s
Leroy Butler 4/4/90s
Darren Woodson 3/5/none
Kenny Easley 4/5/80s
Deron Cherry 2/6/80s
Donnie Shell 3/5/none
Brian Dawkins 3/6/TETK
Ed Reed 2/4/TETK
Lester Hayes 2/5/80s
Only Rod Woodson has more pro bowl appearances. And Lynch's 3 all pro selections compare favorably with everyone except Sanders and Woodson. I'd also guess Lynch will be one of the safeties on the all-'00s team when it's selected, but it's too early to know yet. But Lynch's postseason award numbers are not at all out of line with possible HoF election.
