When Jeremy Shockey was traded from the Giants to the Saints, it was generally assumed that it was because he was unhappy with the team. Shockey had said he would make the Giants pay, and coach Tom Coughlin suggested that Shockey was traded because he didn't share Coughlin's team over self mentality.Lots of bad blood between Shockey and the Giants, right? Well, maybe not. Shockey said this to Peter King:
"I really have no hard feelings,'' he told me. "I loved my years with the Giants. I loved [late owner] Wellington Mara. I really appreciate the chance [former GM] Ernie Accorsi and coach [Jim] Fassel gave me, and [president] John Mara is a class man. Tom Coughlin is a wonderful man, a great coach. I had six wonderful years there. I hold no animosity toward anyone there. I'm just happy I get to make a fresh start, and the Giants should be happy, too -- they got a couple of good draft picks out of this.''Seriously? Coughlin -- the guy who fines players for being late to meetings if they're four minutes early -- is a wonderful man?
Anyway, it's nice of Shockey to take the high road here. He could just as easily rip his old team on the way out the door, and that he isn't doing that is to his credit.

I think Shockey is really going to flourish down here in New Orleans. I also think Bush and Colston are going to LOVE having a TE with his type of skill set in this type of West Coast offensive system. Walsh designed it to make the TE the most versatile position (that and RB) and to help create the most space with that position also. One of the main reasons we have not been able to take advantage of the type of game Reggie does bring is because we have not had an athletic TE with great hands that is an actual threat to the defense and they have been able to "shadow" Bush and also have a couple other defenders keep their eyes on him and key on him at almost all times. Well when they have cover Shockey in motion and over the middle teams will not be able to do this nearly as much, and if they try to its going to leave Colston in a lot more one-on-one coverages against much smaller defensive backs.I believe without these type of pieces in this type of offense Reggie would have a very up and down career that would be much like last year but with this added dimension he is going to have a little more of that precious space he needs to actually make his game work.....

Shockey can make some plays but "great hands".....not. He dropped a lot of balls that the better tight ends would catch. Don't expect too much, Jesse. Shockey was consistently inconsistent with the Giants. Despite the hype, he is not even close to being a hall of fame type tight end. That said, I do believe it was a fair trade and has the possibility of working out for all involved.

I also think being in a media market were rumors arent blown out of porportion and everything is magnified just so there is a story to everything is going to really help repair Shockey's image and he is going to do just fine. And everyone keeps saying he has a huge injury problem - he has played in 83 out of 96 games in his career so i really dont understand what the big deal is about (oh wait yeah i do - the New York media).
