For those who don't recall the story of Brooks from The Shawshank Redemption, here's a refresher:
Brooks, played by the great James Whitmore, became so accustomed to life in prison that when he was finally released, he couldn't cope.
On NFL Network today, Jamie Dukes said Brett Favre is like that, and that's why he simply can't bring himself to retire from football: Favre has spent his entire life in the game, and he just can't bear the thought of life away from it.
I certainly don't think Dukes was suggesting that Favre is going to meet the same end as Brooks, but I do think he has an interesting point to make: Favre's life has, for three decades or so, revolved around football, adjusting to
life outside the game. A lot of people have a tough time adjusting to retirement, and looking at the way Favre is making that adjustment, it's hard not to feel sorry for him.

I understand why Brett Favre doesn't want to retire from football since he would miss the fun of playing his favorite sport and getting paid good money. I just hope he doesn't leave the game due to a serious injury.

I'll say what I've said before... the man can get another job in football that doesn't involve sabotaging the career of his protege and the playoff chances of his beloved franchise.
Go be a coach. Go be a studio analyst. Go play QB for one of the 28 teams not in the NFC north. Travel to HS camps and give inspirational talks and clinics to the next generation of ballers. For Pete's sake, this isn't difficult. Every other HOF quarterback manages to figure it out...
