Dolphins Quickly Cut Two Players in Order to 'Lay Down the Law'

The Miami Dolphins cut two rookie free agents after their first day of training camp. Apparently both were out of shape and not prepared ... so new coach Tony Sparano made an example of them and cut them.

''These new guys, they're laying down the law and they're holding people accountable. The two guys that weren't in shape got waived,'' running back Ricky Williams said of tackle Dan Gore and receiver Justin Wynn. ``Coach [Tony Sparano] is making us accountable, so everyone is stepping to the plate.''

While it is always sad to see someone fired, this just seems like something I've seen before.

Not to say NFL teams do this ... but remember that episode of Friends where Monica wasn't getting the respect from her employees? She hired Joey to act as a waiter ... only so she could fire him and show the others that she was "laying down the law".

I wouldn't put it past a NFL team to do this ... especially in a rebuilding situation like Miami has and with a new head coach in Sparano. These two guys were long shots to make the team anyways, so who knows if the Dolphins brought them in just to fire them. Who shows up to camp out of shape, anyways? Especially guys who have to hit every note perfect just to get a chance to make the roster.

Heck, those two were probably not even in on it. I mean, two roster spots were needed when the team signed Phillip Merling and Chad Henne anyway. Maybe the coaching staff was eying two guys to take the fall and saw it in Gore and Wynn.
