Apparently, when it comes to the Green Bay Packers, there are stories other than Brett Favre. Who knew? After Favre had "announced his retirement" in March, the team's two biggest issues were how Aaron Rodgers would handle the full-time job, and whether running back Ryan Grant would get that new deal he was angling for before training camp.
The jury's still out on Rodgers, but Grant is still without a contract extension, which means he's not in training camp. And this is a problem for head coach Mike McCarthy:
"I am concerned because missing OTAs was a lot different than missing training camp practices. I know both sides are working diligently to get this matter resolved. I hope we do that in a short timeframe....I'm hopeful we'll get this resolved soon."Grant is a big part of the offense and will be relied on to take some of the pressure off Rodgers (assuming, of course, he wins the job.) As for Favre, who's allegedly showing up for Packers training camp, McCarthy had this to say about the whole bizarre (but in a totally predictable way) ordeal:
"Well, it has gone on so long for me personally I can't really recall if I was surprised," McCarthy said. "But the way it has gone has been disappointing, I'll say that. You can say that is a surprise."Translation: Favre is a selfish jerk.* Now, instead of focusing on trying to build on last year's 13-win season, the organization has to deal with the manufactured after-school drama that seemingly follows Favre everywhere he goes. Nah, this won't end badly.
* could be me just projecting

I too am a Favre fan, but the man retired. If Brett wants to be traded, let him go. Give Rodgers the chance he deserves and has been waiting for. Show Ryan Grant the money!! He's shown you the talent and put the spark back in the Packers, taking them to the playoffs! RG is so worth what he's asking for. Make the deal.........

Players careers are not long lived overall. There's a small window of opportunity and then it's over ready or not.
Brett Favre is one of a very few players who has stretched that timezone. If he wants to play; let him play.
Packers can't win in this scenario. The best they could do is send Brett Favre to a team where it will cause contoversy in that new pasture.
Best case scenario would be to send Brett to Minnesota and then beat the Vikings straight up with Brett getting shamed faced. The Packers would save face in that scenario by having bent over backwards to give Favre what he wanted and Favre not delivering the goods against the Vikings.
Then again; if the Packers feel that the Vikings are superior and would beat them; don't send Favre there to add even more punch. If Aaron Rodgers cant lead the Packers to a victory over the Vikings the deal would be horrific for the Cheeseheads.

This writer is an idiot! How can this guy call Favre's father passing, his brother in-law getting into a car accident on Favres property(not sure if he died or not?) or his wife having cancer, "after- school drama"? Also, he says 'wherever he goes"? He's only been in Green Bay(not counting time not played in Atlanta, where there was no drama), the most dependable and durable player of all time, most wins and total passing yards all time! I think I heard(NFL Network) that Green Bay had ONE losing season in all the time Bretts been there! The Packers forced his hand, he didn't want to retire. Now he wants to continue playing, where is the "after-school drama"? If not for Favre, the Packers would not have been a .500 team last year!

When is Farve going to shut his big mouth. He could not carrie JN. or any QB's jock strap. He did not win any of the games his team was the ones that won then. They should send him to where it would take 10 years to get a letter and no phone calls at all from him.

Green Bay Packer management, Mike Murphy, Ted Thompson, Mike McCarthy, et. al are selfish in blocking the continuation of Brett Favre in the NFL. It is arrogance to not accept him back with Packers or have the guts to actively try to trade or release Brett. This is pure cowardice on the part of Green Bay management.
After all what legend has not played till their very end when they think they can. Remember Michael Jordan, Reggiew White, Joe Montana or even the great Jack Nicklaus winning his sixth Masters at the age of 46.
Brett should be able to play as long as he can and wants to. The disgraceful attitude of Packers Management is going to turn off some long-term Packer fans away from the team.

The Packers suck. Brett Favre made that team. I'm dumping them as fast as they dumped Favre. For anyone that continues to say, "he retired", etc. WHATEVER. I would expect then that you have never changed your mind? NEVER? He did the right thing. He gave them notice that he didn't want to retire at a good time. All they had to do then was say yes or no. The Packers are the ones that have been dragging this drama on, not Favre. If he is no good to them then why can't the a$$es release him to play where he wants. They know he'd come back and kick Rodgers right out of Lambeau. Rodgers is cocky and that has never been what the Packers are about, until now. I can't wait to see them blow this year and when they can't even make it to the playoffs, I will be smiling when McCarthy is the one leaving.
