Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall's busy-for-all-the-wrong-reasons offseason just got a little busier: last week, he spent more than two hours in NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's office explaining why he's such a screw-up. The purpose of the meeting was not to discuss the Broncos' chances of rebounding from back-to-back disappointing seasons. Of concern was the list of Marshall's off-field troubles that grew in the past year.In March, Marshall put his arm through a television while wrasslin' with family members, and he's also been the subject of three domestic violence calls in three months. Despite the obvious character concerns, head coach Mike Shanahan calls Marshall a "real good kid," and Marshall agrees (when he's not claiming to be the victim of a shakedown).
Goodell is expected to announce a decision next week on whether he will suspend Marshall, and if so, for how long.
Ultimately, it'll be up to Goodell to decide Marshall's immediate fate, although Shanahan doesn't think the third-year wideout should be suspended because, according to the Denver Post, "most of his troubles stem from a stormy relationship that has since been terminated." Goodell offered Dig Dug Jones temporary reinstatement this offseason, so there's a chance Marshall gets a reprieve.
Of course, with Odell Thurman and Chris Henry perpetually in trouble, even after serving long suspensions, maybe Goodell wants to make an example of Marshall. If there's a silver lining -- assuming Marshall has to sit out for a few games -- he's been such an underachiever in his young career the Broncos probably won't miss him. So there's that.

He was selected by the Broncos out of the University of Central Florida, with the 119th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft.[1] His ability and size have been compared to Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens, which has led to Marshall being nicknamed "Baby T.O."[2] Marshall emerged as one of the best receivers in the game. He posted huge numbers, catching 100-plus passes for 1,325 yards and seven touchdowns in just his second season How is that underachieveing Ryan Wilson?
Marshall is not likely to be suspended that long, primarily because despite all his incidents, he never has been convicted of a crime since joining the NFL in 2006, He was arrested on charges of domestic violence and false imprisonment in March 2007, but those charges were dropped two months later. In October 2007, Marshall was arrested for driving under the influence, but he has pled not guilty to that charge and his trial is pending.

Brandon Marshall will have to get Perry Mason to get him to explain to the commisioner on his off the field problems and why he should not be suspended for his bad behaviour.

This Bronco fan is NOT a fan of Brandon Marshall, however, the guy is far from being an underachiever on the field. On the contrary, he has been an overachiever in a big time way. Hopefully, he can figure out a way to get his personal life in order.........

Ryan,
You still haven't answered how you could possibly say Brandon Marshall is an underachiever. You must have been watching madden games with a 5 year old playing. Marshall is part of the reason Javon Walker wanted out. He wouldn't have been number one. Not only were his receiving stats great the last two years, but he is an excellent downfield blocker. That is due in great part to Rod Smith. You couldn't write an article on his retirement? He was only one of the top 20 receivers of all time. I forgot, you probably don't know who he is.

Rob,
Might I direct you to comment No. 5 above.
Seriously, you're right -- Marshall didn't underachieve and I should've updated the post but I was having too much fun being called an unmitigated moron.
For the record, Marshall had a solid rookie season and an unbelievable second season. But he's still a knucklehead, which is probably what I should've said initially.
