Training camp is finally here and FanHouse breaks down the most important position battles heading into the season, team by team.Trust me, I didn't want it to be this way.
However, the truth is that Green Bay's biggest battle during training camp will be the ongoing saga between Brett Favre and GM Ted Thompson.
Pretty much every starting job is set. Justin Jolly's arrest for codeine possession and his injured rotator cuff has all but handed the defensive tackle jobs to Justin Harrell and Ryan Pickett. There could be a fight for the left guard spot ... but who are we kidding? It's all Favre, all day.
I'm not going over what has happened (click here to catch up on it all), but this thing will come to a head sometime during training camp. It has to. Heck, in just a few weeks this thing has looked like center court at Wimbledon. One of three things will happen: Favre will be practicing in green and gold; Favre will be traded/released or Favre will stay retired.
If the Packers stick to their guns, Favre will be retired. He will not stay in Green Bay backing up Aaron Rodgers, nor is that fair to Rodgers. For him to stay a Packer, he will have to
If Favre gets traded or released, that will be a PR nightmare that Thompson may never recover from. The nastiness of it all seems to point to the Packers telling Favre he will backing up Rodgers which, they hope, hits him in the ego and he retires. But the way this has gone, I wouldn't put it past Favre to see their bluff and don a $14 million headset and clipboard.
And, yes, despite those battles for backup tight end or second string quarterback ... the only show in town will Brett Favre.

Favre should be allowed to seek a trade with Seattle, Tampa BAy, Chicago or Dallas.. The price should be a second round pick in the 2009 draft given to Green Bay by the signing team. Favre should have to pay Green Bay $1,000,000 punative damaages. Dallas would be a fit. How many games has Dallas won against teams with a winning record when Romo was the quarterback? I think the record is under .500 success rate against teams with winning records.

Why can't the league or NFLPA step in? He went back on his word. He should have to pay the price, so to speak. I am sick of this bull. Act like a Hall of Famer Brett. Be a man and stand behind your word.
I think he needs to be crucified. Martyred, Yeah THAT'S IT!
