I don't think many people would disagree with this here assessment from Mr. Anonymous NFL Coach/Scout/Front-Office Type, particularly since we've been beaten about the head with it since, oh, I don't know, the day the 2007 season ended. But, hey, maybe if the folks in charge of making decisions for the Bears hear it enough, something will eventually change. Or not. Whatever. "The Bears have no offense. Who is their quarterback? Who is their running back? Who are their receivers? A guy who could not get on the field with Washington (WR Brandon Lloyd) is slated to start. They are going to be putting a lot of faith in a rookie left tackle and a rookie running back.As Josh Alper pointed out to me, do you really need to be anonymous to make such claims? I'm convinced this is Jerry Angelo, in which case it almost is acceptable, but still.
They are bound to be down by 30 at halftime against Indianapolis in the opener with (defensive coordinator) Bob Babich still coordinating the defense. They could begin the season 0-4 and be right back to where they were when they made the mistake of selecting Cedric Benson. If you want to look at the quality of their backfield, just consider the guy they were counting on to be their starter (Benson) was passed by all 31 other teams on waivers. What does that tell you?"
In any event, yeah, we get it, the Bears are going to be VERY BAD in 2008. They have, well, no offensive weapons, and their best player is probably unproven left tackle Chris Williams and unproven running back Matt Forte.
Sure, they have Kevin Jones and his reconstructed knee, but what's he good for, three, maybe four games? Then what? Re-sign Benson? I say make a trade for Chris Simms, stat, move Rex Grossman to running back and see if Kyle Orton can catch. If so, let him share the job with Brandon Lloyd, at least until Lloyd quits to pursue his true love, producing music.
By the way, I'm not as down on Chicago as Mr. I'm Scared to Show My Face. There's no way they're down by 30 to the Colts in the opener. Four touchdowns, maybe, but not a point more.

The only hope the Bears have to succeed this season is that the defense becomes the Monsters Of The Midway and keep the opposing team off the scoreboard and the Bears offense scores on long scoring drives or chip shot scores inside the red zone.

The Bears need two things to get them into the NFC Championship game: 1)a Quarterback and 2) an offensive coordinator. Brett Favre has another good year left and could get the job done, if he could keep his offensive system. So, get Favre and let him put in the basic offense, which would be a duplicate of the one he ran at Green Bay. Let Favre be the Offensive Coordinator on the field, and then get out of his way. BUT, it is critical that Favre have his offense and have control of it. Anything short of that be the same dreary Turner offense that has embarrassed the Bears for so many years. Turn it over to Favre for one season. You aren't going anywhere, anyway.

SADLY I have the Bears winning 4 games this year:
Atlanta ,split with Detroit, St,Louis and Houston. Do you think that will be good enough (or should I say bad enough) for the first overall pick in the draft? What's the difference we will still have Jerry Asshole I mean Angelo ruining our draft! ! !

Everyone has an opinion--at this point it is nothing but speculation. Often things turn out differently -injuries-luck-weather-etc-all play their part in the season. I see it like:
#1-Special teams should give us decent field position most times / maybe even a few points once in a while
#2-Gould isa very good field goal kicker
#3-we have to be at least a little bit better at running than last year
#4-Defense is back to ful strength-and hopefully not near the injuries sustained last year
#5-weather at Soldier field alweways on our side---
#6-if we can move the ball 20 yards-and even just tack on field goals--and
the defense creates some trun-overs that they didnt last year--could be not near as bad as you folks make it look like.
#7-First game in Indy-our defense will be full strength and I hope they put a hit or two on Colts----
#8 -Orton I think will be at least as good or if not better than before---I really believe that
#9-many jobs are on the line this year-players, coaches, etc--and usually that is a great motivator
#10--I am a Bears fan from jump street--and maybe I have rose colored glsses here--but I think they are not as bad as everyone thinks---we'll certainly find out! Bo Bears!!!!

Ryan Wilson was wrong! In his July 3rd article he points out that Chris Mortensen was "wrong" on reporting that Brett Favre was planning a comeback. I've been reading to see if Ryan Wilson reported that he himself was wrong. No he didn't. This is my report... Ryan Wilson "YOU WERE WRONG".
