Peter King of Sports Illustrated talked to Packers general manager Ted Thompson about the Brett Favre situation, and you get the sense that Thompson thinks Favre has put him in an awkward situation, a situation in which there are no easy answers:Thompson's job is to help the Packers win, not to do what Packers fans think he should do, and certainly not to make Favre happy. But he's obviously agonizing over deciding what, exactly, will best help the Packers win when it comes to the Favre comeback."We're in a unique situation, obviously. I don't know who's ever had to face a situation like this before.''
Then Thompson paused.
"We don't have the answers. I wish someone would call me with the right answer,'' he said. "But I haven't heard from anyone. [Meaning his peers in front offices league-wide.] I think I'm a hot potato right now.''

The Packers are a publicly owned team so the desires of the shareholders/fans has to carry some weight. The general manager does what the owner wants which isn't necessarily whats best for the team (prime example the Clippers prior to the past few years). Those factors being taken into consideration I'm sure whats best for the team is what carries the most weight here. I'm just pointing out another reason why this is a unique situation.

A lot of this depends on just how good Aaron Rodgers is. If you think he can carry your team, trade Favre to an AFC team, preferably one not on Green Bays schedule. But keep in mind that doing that will put a lot of pressure on Rodgers, and if he performs poorly, the fans will crucify both him and management.

There is only one answer Ted, and if you can't see it, you're even more screwed up than we thought. It's Brett Favre! It's the Green Bay Packers! You've put yourself in this spot by missing the obvious. Get him back now. It's the only way. Otherwise you've not only ruined your future but Aaron Rodgers' too. We want Brett back.
He's a legend-- he's our legend! Are you crazy? Shame on you for doing this to Green Bay! Lombardi is rolling in his grave!
