In the spring of 2006, former Green Bay Packers tight end Mark Chmura made public statements in which he ripped Brett Favre for the way he prevented the franchise from planning for the future by refusing to state definitively whether he was going to play that season.
Among Chmura's comments at the time:
"People who don't think that it's all about him are fooling themselves" ...I like Favre and I don't like Chmura, but in this instance, Chmura might have been right. Favre's waffling on retirement has shown him to be driven by what he thinks is best for him, even at the expense of the team. That's the definition of selfish.
"These quotes are 'I am better than the game,'" Chmura said. "'I will make my decision when I want, and Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy aren't going to tell me what to do'" ...
"He's a selfish guy. He's a very selfish guy."

Favre is what's best for the team.
Selfish in this instance is Ted Thompson running Favre out of town in an attempt to justify wasting a first round pick on Aaron Rodgers.

Favre is Selfish plain and simple. The team asked him what are your plans. His responce I am not sure. Now u are the coach and GM and the draft is coming up and how do you prepare. He was leaning towards retirement at that stage years ago. So they drafted a replacement for him in Rogers. Then all of a sudden he wants to play. So they just wasted 3 years of a #1 pick sitting on the bench. Thats selfish? After the season they asked hoim what his plans are he said he was going to retire. Didnt you see all the interviews. They go on without him and now hes like i want to play for the team i want to play for no one loves me, I felt unwanted. Oh God what BS, they asked you what YOU WANTED TO DO. In fact through all these years they ask him what are your plans. What more do you want. What a scmuck!! What more does he want than a team asking him what his plans are? He either changed his mind or said i dont know. What kind of answers are those? What if they never drafted Aaron and he retired ? They would have a team with zero qb's. Then Pack fans would say how could management not prepare for this.

Speaking of Aaron Rodgers, I'd go to the GM and head coach and demand either a strong statement guaranteeing my position as the starter going into the season, or a trade/release.
The guy deserves to know what the heck is happening with his career, and waiting for Favre to stop flip-flopping must be a pain in the ass for Rodgers and his family.

You guys sound like Favre @$##wipers to me...just like the media. He is the selfish, regardless of what you this of the former TE.
Favre has been playing this game...and I don't mean the game of football...with the Packers for several years now.
Please explain why the Packers are supposed to keep sucking up to him even when I continually puts them in a bind with his waffling and deny them a chance to actually develop his eventual replacement.
It this were any other quarterback doing the same thing, the media and fans would crucify him.
Favre thinks that he is bigger than the game and after changing his mind twice in March, he expects the team to continue to kiss his butt.
Now, he also has the nerve to think that he can demand his release.
The Packers are doing the right thing. Either he plays backup for them or he can take his football, his croc tears and go back home to Mississippi.

Chumura is just trying to win back the Packer fans. Taking advantage of younger people for your own pleasure is the definition of selfish.
What does he do now..rip off the elderly???
I think he should shut-up, he`s in no position to critique anyone...I thought they were friends?
We all have moments in life that demand us to choose for ourselves, moments that define our happiness, moments that define our-selves. Favre CHOOSES to play, he CAN still play, let him play.

Brett is without a doubt self centered and selfish!
Packers with the super bowl.. Bret takes all the credit, ignores the fact that it was Reggie White who won with what could be the greatest second half by a defensive player in history
Father Dies.. Bret goes (Cant mess with my Streak) off to play on Monday night football!!! Claims dad would have wanted it that way.. Maybe yea but I bet MOM would have liked her sons shoulder to lean on in the hours after her husbands death!
Wife gets cancer.. Bret goes off to training camp to let her deal with it alone! NICE!
"his" Team cant win in the playoffs its the front office fault for not getting him better people to take the credit from
Mom is stuck in the path of hurricane Katrina, Bret lets it hit without even trying to get her out of the path of the worst natural disaster in history
Packers Draft Aaron Rodgers.. Bret’s first interview and everyone he does at training camp that year.." I hope they don’t think I'm going to help this kid learn the offence.. it's not my job to teach him anything"
if these aren’t the acts of a whiney self centered jack ass I don’t know what is.. And the press/media loves this man? Go away Brett just go away

Favre is a gamer but he is not one of the all time best qb's. He has made far too many critical mistakes in the biggest of games.

Chmurra's right. But he, like Marv Albert and Kobe, really has no basis to judge anyone's character.
Let he who hasn't cheated on his wife and kids and had "consensual sex" with a 17 year old cast the first stone.

Wow, I don't know where to begin with this soap opera.
I think both sides are selfish, and in this league and any sport or situation, people are selfish. - you can't get passed that.
I think they have been trying to run Favre out for years now but they don't want to anger the fans of the Packers. Favre on the other hand still has it at 38, and IS one of the top QB's in the league. For years Favre didn't have the supporting cast around him until last season.
Favre is also to blame for being indecisive for many years of his retirement and i can see the organization's frustration with this. I also think they are to blame for Favre's indecision though.
The bottom line is that Favre can still play at a high level and has proven so by last year's performance. Rogers is still unknown how he can perform for a full season and especially in the post season with NO experience. So, wouldn't it make sense to have a guy (Favre) who can give you the best chance of winning the Super Bowl, run your team? They have the surrounding players to be a potential winning team and you're going to take a chance with Rogers who has proven nothing!? I thought the main objective was to win the Super Bowl? It's not like the Packers are in any salary cap issues by having Favre come back and start.
I would loved to see Favre get released and go to the Vikings and then win the Super Bowl! Even if it means my team doesn't. Ha, wouldn't that be sweet justice. Then Favre can retire sticking it to the MAN!

Selfishness is both good and bad. In Brett's case he is selfish because he enjoys football so much he can't stand not playing the game he loves so much that his bosses in Green Bay are dumbfounded about his retirement in March and now he wants to return and lead the Packers back to the Super Bowl. Human beings by nature are selfish and Brett is not any different.

For the love of god, the Brett lovers think this guy walks on water, I have been a Packer Fan for over 40 years and its always been about the Packers Team. I cheared them on when they sucked and also when they were at the top of their game, but it was always about the team, Brett Favre thinks that everyone should bow down and kiss his *** . And he loves it everytime he can screw this team over with his childess games, BRETT ACTS LIKE A 2 YEAR OLD CHILD and that's the truth, and the packer team is what really counts, not just Brett Favre, so please fans if your honest with yourself you have to come to conclusion that the best thing for this team is for Brett to stick to his word and stay retired and fade off in history with some respect otherwise he is going to end up becoming the biggest jerk of all times at this pace....

Brett Favre is arguably the greatest Packer of all-time. He is undeniably now acting like the biggest jack$ss. What a freaking head case! It's really a shame. Each day this drags on he becomes more of an embarrassment. Is he that delusional not to see this? If he does end up with another team, I pity them...It will be a relied to get this prima-donna out of Green Bay, regardless of how the season goes. He claims he doesn't want to be a distraction. Yeah, right! It's all about him. And he is a huge distraction! Again, maybe in his delusional state he can't see this. And I am, or at least was, a Brett Favre fan. I was a Packer fan for three-decades before Favre arrived. I will remain one long after he is gone, which can't be soon enough. Too bad. He has for a long time to come tarnished his image. Perhaps we're finally seeing the real Brett Favre...I've seen way too much.
