For those of you sitting around pining for the golden age of "SportsCenter," some good news via the New York Times' Richard Sandomir: the band's getting back together ... on NBC!
Dan Patrick, who left ESPN last year to create his own syndicated radio program and write a column for Sports Illustrated, will join NBC Sports where he will be reunited with Keith Olbermann to call the N.F.L. highlights on "Football Night in America."Olbermann left ESPN in 1997 amid some controversy, but he's now arguably more popular than ever after emerging as MSNBC's left-of-center answer to Fox News' "fair and balanced" political coverage.
Anyway, according to Sandomir, "NBC is looking to recreate the chemistry and quirky humor that Patrick and Olbermann demonstrated when they were co-anchors on ESPN's 'SportsCenter,' which they dubbed 'The Big Show.'"
Olbermann was with the "Football Night in America" crew last season serving as something of a social commentator (you may remember him from such forgettable segments as, "Michael Vick, Not Michael Victim"). Whatever, I welcome the change, if for no other reason than a) I grew up watching Patrick and Olbermann, and b) less Bob Costas for everyone!

I tuned out of FNIA because of Olby last year.
Looks like I'll be repeating my individual embargo, again, this year.

Keith Olberman is more popular than ever? Oh, I remember now...Ryan Wilson is the king of satire.
Olberman cetainly didn't distinguish himself last year on NBC. He stumbled badly over his poorly written, ill thought out, unfunny juvenile humor.
Funny thing is he used to be a lot better, back when he didn't take himself so seriously or think that he is a political pundit.

Al,
By "popular", I mean "more recognizable." Yeah, I can buy that not everybody loves his MSNBC shtick (or his NFL/NBC shtick), but he's certainly more better known now than when he left ESPN.
But I take your point.

Olbermann brought back to be a sports caster is enough to make you miss the SB with your team favored to win if he has a mic and the camera is on him.
Man he makes your skin crawl

Ryan Wilson is a moron. I read a few of his pieces a while back and this latest piece of garbage confirms it. Won't be reading this clown's stuff again.... Keith Ubermoron is the "worst person in the world" and lacks class, style and depth..... sounds like Ryan Wilson to me.
No wonder Wilson is an Olbermann butt-sniffer.

I passed on Football Night in America last year precisely because of Olbermann. NBC was trying to force this guy down our throats because O'Reilly was having him for lunch on cable news and NBC- in it's ever left thinking- decided to promote Olbermann even more via "sports" exposure.
Once again, I won't be watching this show. The raings are in the tank, but that never stopped NBC before.
